What is the difference between a lady bug and a Japanese beetle?

Color: Native ladybug is RED, Asian lady beetle ranges from orange to tan to yellow (or even black).

"Despite the wide variation in background color and number of spots, [Asian Lady Beetles] all share a distinguishing mark on their pronotum...that small section that separates the head area from the abdomen (where the wing covers start). There is a mark on the pronotum that looks like a "W" or "M" depending upon whether you are looking at it from the front or rear. All multi-colored Asian lady beetles have this mark that domestic ladybugs lack."

Both are different from the Japanese Beetle, which is a metallic green-brown, and slightly larger than either Lady. It is considered a pest, and devours many plants. It can strip the leaves off a plant (trees, crops, and ornamentals such as roses, etc.) resulting in considerable damage to the plant, even killing them. You can purchase Japanese Beetle Traps which are baited with pheromones and are very effective in drawing them. In infested areas, it is not unusual for each trap to catch a quart of the insects a day in the height of the season.

Can aphids use humans as hosts?

Aphids do not use humans as hosts. They are small sap-sucking insects that primarily feed on the phloem of plants. While they can affect agriculture and gardens by damaging crops and transmitting plant viruses, they do not have a parasitic relationship with humans. Instead, aphids typically rely on specific host plants for their nutrition and reproduction.

What kind of lifecycle does a ladybug have?

starts as an egg then it turns into larva the it turns into lady bug pupa and then its a grown upThe first stage of a ladybug's life cycle is the Egg Stage. The ladybug's eggs are laid, and they usually hatch 2-5 days after they are laid. The second stage is the Larvae Stage. When the eggs hatch the larvae will come out and start looking for food. They will usually look for small mites or aphids. A few days later, the larvae will begin to shed their skin, this is called molting, they will continue to molt until they are finished growing. The third stage is the Pupa Stage After about 2 weeks of being larvae the ladybug will turn into the pupa stage. It attaches itself to a leaf and it will remain there for a few days, during these few days the larvae are going through a metamorphosis (changes) into a ladybug. The final stage is the adult lady bug stage. After the metamorphosis is done, the skin of the larvae will break open and the adult ladybug will come out. The shell will look very pale or pink for a couple of hours, when the couple of hours are up the shell will begin to harden, while the shell is hardening it begins to gain pigment, and the shell turns bright red.

Why is the ladybug called the 'ladybird' beetle?

The familiar beetle, usually with black spots on red, is called ladybug in the US, and ladybird in most of the rest of the English-speaking world.
The name ladybird comes from the vernacular name for the common 7-spot ladybird (Coccinella 7-puncata) in Europe: Our Lady's Bird -- the Lady in this case being The Virgin Mary. The red color of the elytra (wing cover) represents her cloak, and the seven spots represent the Virgin's seven joys and seven sorrows.
Relating Ladybirds to the Virgin Mary is not unusual, in 1991 Dr. A.W. Exell published his book History of the Ladybird in which he cites 329 common names for the Ladybird from 55 countries, of which over 80 refer to the Virgin Mary and more than 50 are dedicated to God. Contrarily one Italian name is 'Galineta del Diaolo' or 'The Devils Chicken'. Other names include the Swedish Himelska nyckla or 'The Keys of Heaven' and the Cherokee 'Great Beloved Woman'.
