You collect character tokens which gets people in the shop for you to buy. Also, just beating levels will get you some characters. Well, you go to the owlery, (it is a castle/a door next to the entrance) and you find 3 or 4 owls (I can't remember) to take you to the upper platform. Once you are there, bring a feather close to the man in the portrait. He'll sneeze, knock down the wall, and you'll have pieces to make a record player. There are 3 records. One is right next to it. Another, is in a metal chest. And the last is in the far right drawer. If you can't get the one in the drawer, make sure there are no records playing at the moment. Cho Chang!

After you finish a level, you go back into the room or whatever it is where you go to the level and then click "Free Play" instead of "Story." You have to do a level in Story mode before you can play it in Free Play.
