Limewire in its self is a perfectly legal program. You may notice that before you download it, you tick a box saying you agree not to use the program to exploit copywrited songs. This protects the people that make limewire. There is no law against people sharing files, just against people hosting copywrited material. It is illegal to download a copywrited song, but not to use limewire, so dont expect to get arrested if you have the program. These music lawyers have bigger fish to fry: the guys who have "open folders" on their computer allowing people to download copywrited material. Besides, if we want more of this music in the future, then the best way to go about it is to buy the album so the aritst and producer can make another one, and want to. BE FAIR!!!!
How do you install LimeWire on Linux?
1. Download the .deb file from their website if you use Ubuntu, Kubuntu, or Debian.
1a. Alternatively, you can download a package from Frostwire. Frostwire is essentially Limewire with a different skin. If you use an RPM-based distro, such as OpenSUSE, Fedora, or PCLinuxOS, this is a much better option, since Limewire does not provide an RPM package.
2. You can either double-click the download .rpm / .deb file, or you can use the terminal. For the terminal, use:
dpkg -i nameofpackage.deb
or
rpm -i nameofpacke.deb
depending on what package type you use. In Ubuntu / Kubuntu, you will need to put "sudo" in fron of the command ( "sudo dpkg -i ...")
3. Next, you need to install Java. In Ubuntu and Kubuntu, enter
sudo apt-get install sun-java6-jre
In Debian, provided you are root, you do not need sudo in front.
3-2. For RPM-based distros, there is an RPM package on Java's site (see Related Links).
4. In the terminal, enter (as root, or with sudo in front):
update-alternatives --config java
Make sure there is a star next to "java-6-sun", or "ia32-java-6-sun" if you are on a 64-bit system. If it is not, enter the number of it into the terminal.

Due to some weird bug in Java, Limewire / Frostwire may crash while starting. If it does, enter this into your terminal:
export LIBXCB_ALLOW_SLOPPY_LOCK=1

Limewire is alright but the free edition is not "turbo charged". Frostwire is an open-source, community developed version of the turbo-charged version of limewire that is free. So when it comes to connections, frostwire can have much faster download speeds with more connections. ive had limewire for a long time and it was working good for me, but everyone told me frostwire was better, so i tried it, but it made my computer run slower and i did not get the results i got on limewire. it depends which one works better on your computer.

Did you download it from the LImeWire official site? LimeWire software from other sites so frequently acts as a Trojan injector for malware that it's won the award as the most dangerous download.
