What they do:C-1: esophagus empties, fermentation takes place. Largest compartment. (Results in almost a neutral environment 6.4-7.0 pH)

C-2: Does same thing as C-1 except esophagus doesn't empty.

C-3: Acts like abomasum "True stomach" digestion takes place. 3.0pH (acidic)

How do you restrain an Alpaca?

It depends on the purpose of the restraint - and how many people you have.

If you simply want to hold the alpaca in place, or restrain it while someone else does something (eg. clips its toenails) - you place one arm around its neck, place your knee in front of its chest (your other knee can go behind the shoulder/leg if possible) and your other arm goes over its back.

There is a technique called "chuckering" - which involves tying a rope around the alpaca's middle, then placing its two back legs in the loop made. This is however quite difficult, and is not a very reliable restraint technique (the rope must be the correct size or else the legs simply come out again).

If you have a particularly difficult alpaca - you can hold on to its ear(s). Do not pull harshly or squeeze too tight, just grip on to the ear. This is usually effective because the alpaca realises that it will hurt if it moves. You can also grab the tail at the same time for further restraint.

If the alpaca is halter-trained, you can restrain it with a halter and lead. Do not try this on an alpaca that has not been halter trained - the animal will stress and jump around.

Can a llama with a disease give it to another animal by spitting it in the eye?

Yes...and no. Because most bacteria is in the mouth and it is easy to enter the body through the eye, diseases can be spread easily. Thankfully for most humans, diseases carried by llamas will probably not thrive in a human body. This is because bacteria is made to infect only one or two life forms. So if another animal or human was spit at, it may or may not be infected depending on the disease.

Why does shearing cause no pain to the sheep?

Because it's just shearing off wool, not skin or flesh. Wool, like hair, is dead material and has no nerve connections. The skin may be slightly irritated by shearing.

A sheep can't feel the wool being sheared because it is made of the same type of dead proteins found in human hair and nails, which do not generate any pain when cut.
