Find external subnet mask?

A simple way of finding out your computer's external subnet mask in Windows is to go to Start and select Run. Type ipconfig into the box, press the Enter key on the keyboard and a dialogue box will pop up with the required information.

Where does a collision domain exist in a switched network?

In a LAN packet-switched environment, such as with an Ethernet network, the transmission of the data packets relies on packet switches, routers, and LAN cables. In a LAN, the switch establishes a connection between two segments only long enough to send the current packet. Incoming packets are saved to a temporary memory area or buffer in memory. In an Ethernet-based LAN, an Ethernet frame contains the payload or data portion of the packet and a special header that includes the media access control (MAC) address information for the source and destination of the packet. When the packets arrive at their destination, they are put back in order by a packet assembler. A packet assembler is needed because of the different routes that the packets may take. Bottom Line is a router breaks up a number of computers into segments. So the collision domain is all the computers in that segment. The router prevents data traveling to the other segment when it is not addressed to that segment.

What is a shared medium wired lan device?

An example of a shared medium network device would be a repeater or hub, since the ports are shared.

Why attenuation is much higher in coaxial cable than in twisted pair cable?

It is not true. Attenuation is higher in twisted pair cable. See related links:

It is, because coaxial cable is concluded system and magnetic field of signal in coaxial cable is kept inside the cable so there is little energy losses because no energy is spent on inducing currents outside of cable.

When creating a packet how does the network layer determine the size of the packet?

The Network layer (Layer 3, typically IP) will receive a segment from the Transport layer (Layer 4, typically TCP or UDP), and will add its own header to it to create a packet. The size of the packet will thus always be the size of the segment plus the Network layer header, the same as when the next layer down (the Data Link layer, layer 2, typically Ethernet) encapsulates the packet into a frame for transmission.

Why do LANs tend to use brodcast networks Why not use networks consisting of multiplers and switches?

Broadcasts are necessary at local network levels. ARP is on of the broadcasts but it's required for existence of a local network.

Which WAN technology offers 78 Mbps wireless transmission?

WiMAX offers 78 Mbps wireless transmission. WiMAX is based on the 802.16 standard and uses a scheduling algorithm to offer more efficient bandwidth utilization and quality of service (QoS) support.

What common network can communicate even if they have different network topologies?

It depends; if topplogy is intended in terms of Local Area Network (LAN), most Ethernet LANs use the same topology which is hub and spoke, where Ethernet switch(es) act as the hub and the spokes are hosts (PC's, servers, printers, IP phones, etc.). If topology is meant in terms of different technologies, e.g. Interconnecting an Ethernet network to a SONET or MPLS network, then a router is required between the two. Another possibility is transporting for instance Ethernet traffic over TDM (SONET or T1/T3) circuits. In such case the Ethernet frames are encapsulated at one end of the circuit using protocols such as GFP, PPP OR HDLC and traffic is de-encapsulated at the other end. Specialized bridges are capable of that, without requiring any IP routing.

How can you connect airport express to a local area network LAN without a cable modem?

both computers should have lan ports on them, use a lan cable - yellow in Australia and directly connect the two computers. At your local airport they use wireless so you will need a wireless modem (Wi-Fi)

What is penbinet?

if i know answer about this question im not willing u to ask this ans......

Can i connect a switch that function as a router to another router for local area network?

A switch cannot function as a router. But you can plug a switch in to one of the ports on the router if you need additional ports.

Is Email is udp or tcp?

the u in udp stands for unreliable and since email is important it is sent using tcp through say smtp or pop3

How client server system can provide connectivity?

Connectivity is provided via network connections, usually via a wired network connection of some kind.

What devices besides pcs will eventually run on wireless lan?

Printers and Fax Machines, Game Decks (PS3, X-Box 360), and Home Theater Systems are just a few that already exist today.
