Coupons, which have been available for decades, are becoming increasingly popular and easier to use. Because of the Internet, they are now available online as well as from traditional sources, which include newspaper inserts, magazines, manufacturers' coupon booklets and store coupons. While many different kinds of stores offer coupons, the majority of coupons are used for purchasing groceries, household goods, and beauty and health products. Committed coupon users hunt for them in all available sources:

SmartSource and Redplum publish coupon inserts in the Sunday newspaper (except on holiday weekends), and Proctor and Gamble also publishes a monthly insert. Various stores, such as Walgreens, Family Dollar and CVS, also offer coupons in their weekly newspaper ads.

Some magazines offer a few coupons. All You magazine, available at Wal Mart and online, is targeted for coupon users and is the best source in this category.

Some companies, such as Proctor and Gamble and Kraft, will mail out coupon booklets to customers who request them. Also, many stores, such as Rite-Aid, offer coupon booklets.

Another major source of coupons is the stores themselves. Many grocery stores print out coupons (Catalina coupons) with grocery receipts, and other stores offer coupons in their newspaper advertisements and on their websites. Grocery stores also offer coupon tear pads and SmartSource "blinkies," which are sometimes available near products such as milk and dairy. Wine tags and collars containing coupons can be located on bottles such as wine or olive oil. Another type of coupon is the "peelie" that is peeled off a product, such as a cereal box or a juice carton.

Manufacturers and stores also publish coupons online that customers can download and print. Target has a large selection of coupons on their website. The main sources of internet coupons are Coupons.com., SmartSource and Redplum. Several websites such as Southern Savers and Hip2Save offer continuous updates about new coupons and databases of existing coupons to make it easy to locate specific coupons.

Manufacturers are increasingly offering coupons to Facebook users who "like" their products on their Facebook pages.

eCoupons are available on grocery store websites. Click on a coupon and save it to your store card number, and the coupon will automatically be deducted when you buy the product. Also, Cellfire coupons are eCoupons that certain grocery stores accept. Just go the Cellfire website and add the coupons you want to your grocery store card.
