Lung cancer occurs when something stimulates cells in the lung or lungs to begin to multiply uncontrollably. The most common cause of lung cancer is smoking, although there are other causes, usually involving inhalation of foreign particles.
What causes lung cancer? The biggest cause of lung cancer is smoking, approximately 36,000 people in the U.K. die from lung cancer every year, 90% of those lung cancer deaths are from smoking. If you are a non-smoker there is a risk that you can get lung cancer from passive smoking, though the risk is not as high than if you smoke yourself. Passive smoking could be responsible for several hundred, lung cancer cases every year. Another possible cause of lung cancer is exposure to certain chemicals and substances such as asbestos, radon gas and nickel, but this is very rare. Air pollution has also been suspected as a cause of lung cancer, but this has not been proved.

The 'studies' that linked lung cancer to exposure to secondhand smoke related to 'spousal exposure', i.e. 24x7 exposure in the home over several DECADES. Of these studies, over 80% produced inconclusive results and a couple even suggested a beneficial effect. Only by cherry picking the studies that gave the 'right result' and performing some 'creative' statistics on them could they 'prove' an epidemiologically insignificant increase in risk. In other words, had the 'studies' been performed on anything other than smoking, they would have been binned!
IF there is a risk of lung cancer from secondhand smoke, it is grossly over-exaggerated.
No.
Oranges contain vitamin C, which has been shown to have some potential anti-cancer benefits. However, these studies were done with intravenously injected vitamin C, as absorbing a clinically beneficial quantity from food such as oranges is impossible.
Additionally, vitamin C has only been scientifically proven to work on mice and rats, and even then it only prolongs their life. It cannot cure them.
So oranges are not going to cure cancer. I'm sorry.

Cancer is a sneaky disease. Mammograms do provide early detection in some cases, and I hope that yours is still in a very treatable stage. Be glad that they have found it now, and can begin treatment. My husband got sick and they suspected cancer. They looked for 18 months, and when they did find it he had only 6 weeks to live. So, if they have found yours there is a good chance you can beat this. Good luck.
Can a person have lung cancer and not have a tumor present on a ct scan?
It is possible to have early-stage lung cancer without a tumour showing up on a CT scan. In such cases, the only way of telling is a blood test, which would show a higher than normal level of white blood cells (lymphocytes).
However, this would only be at a VERY early stage- with lung cancer, tumours appear fairly early, so the condition would be in it's infancy and therefore more amenable to chemotherapy than later on. If you suspect you have early-stage lung cancer, go and see your doctor and ask for a referral to a specialist.
