The serous membrane on the lung surface is called the what?
Pleural Cavity is the body cavity that surrounds the right and left lung. The pleura is a serous membrane which folds back to form a two-layered, membrane structure. The thin space between the two pleural layers is known as the pleural cavity; it normally contains a small amount of pleural fluid. The outer pleura parietal pleura is attached to the chest wall. The inner pleura, visceral pleura covers the lungs and adjoining structures.
What was happening at the time of the iron lung?
Polio paralizes particular nerves including the nerves that control breathing. When a person had polio, it became difficult for that person to breathe. That person was placed in this large iron cylinder. Their neck and head stuck out. A diaphragm at the foot would go back and forth. The diaphragm would pull one direction creating a partial vacuum making the person breathe in. Then the diaphragm would push the other way creating increasing the air pressure. The person would breathe out. Eventually the patient would either die or recover. Vaccinations have wiped polio out of most of the world except for Muslim areas. Today, other devices can force air into and out of the lungs without covering the entire body.
What prevents overinflation of the lungs?
The lungs are protected from external or outside damage by the rib cage.
What are the characteristics of the lungs?
The Lungs are usually viewed in two sections, the Gas Movement section, and the Gas Exchange section. The right lung is significantly larger, having three Lobes, than the left lung, with only two lobes. This is because the left ventricle of the heart sits slightly to the left side of the thorax taking some of the space the lung would otherwize have had. The lungs are withing a cavity in the thorax called the Pleural Cavity and are surrounded by a bouble membrane called the Pluaral Membrane. The inner layer of the pleural membrane is called the visceral layer and is continuous with the alveoli of the lung, the outer layer is called the perietal layer. To follow a gas molecule breathed in would take you first down the Bronchus (there is one on each side, for each lung) then through a network of Bronchioles until it came to an Alveolar Duct. Up to this poin has been purely the gas movement section and all but the both the bronchi and bigger bronchioles have carticalge arounf them and smoothe muscle to control airflow. The alveolar ducts lead into Alveolar Air Sacs that look very much like bunches of grapes. This is where the gas exchange takes place across the very thin cells of the sacs into (and out of) the blood. So maximise the volumes of gas exchanged means you require as much of a surface area as possible and the of all the alveoli together is aound the same as half a tenis court. There is always some air within the alveoli because if there wasnt the fluid lining them would cause such a great surface tension that the sacs would never open again.
Two spongy, saclike organs in the chest cavity.
Is the diaphragm superior to the lungs?
Yes the liver lies below the diaphragm on the right side of the abdomen.
What are some of the signs that one has smoker's lung?
Symptoms of smoker's lung, usually referring to lung cancer, include coughing, which can produce blood and lead to chest pain. Shortness of breath is also common.
What does it mean to have long lungs?
Long lungs is also known as hyperexpanded lungs. When someone has long lungs it means that the person can't breath as much air as others with normal sizes lungs.
Does a frog have gills and lungs?
toads do not have lungs, but they do breathe underwater. their skin absorbs the water which brings the oxygen into their bodies to help them breathe easily underwater.
CORRECTION:
Toads do in fact have lungs. Unlike many frogs, toads have dry skin but when in water they are still able to exchange gases through their skin in its moist state. Nevertheless, toads do have lungs, and draw air into their mouths and using their jaw muscles, force the air down into their lungs using positive pressure. It all depends on the species of toad, but both mechanisms for gas inhalation supplement each other.
Why can exercising outside be particularly dangerous for your lungs?
The only times exercising outdoors can be harmful is if there is pollution such as ozone or you are allergic to the pollens floating around at the time.

The lungs are found in what main body cavity?
The Thoracic Cavity. More specifically, the Left and Right Pleural Cavities. Both answers would be correct, but some teachers/professors prefer the more specific one.
which bubbles ? i think u r talking about air sacks called as alveoli which helps in exchange of gases in our lungs
What is the pointed part of the lung?
The top pointed tip of the lung is the apex, while the pointed tip on the bottom of the left lung is called the lingula.
There are many causes that will make ones lungs shrink. Some of the causes may include old age, doing aerobic exercises, and smoking.
How does dirt get into your lungs?
The lungs become black like tar and the dust collects on them, making you cough a lot. You are not able to breathe properly if you are athsmatic and a smoker. This kills you a lot quicker than a normal smoker (a.k.a: a non-athsmatic). Please do not smoke if you have athsma. My friend died when she tried it and she ended up with extreme lung cancer, it was very painful saying goodbye to her. STOP SMOKING AND PASS AROUND THE MESSAGE TO ANY OTHER PERSON YOU KNOW WHO DOES IT!
Please! For our world! Ok, now, I'm starting to sound like a science nerd.

We all have two lungs and we are designed to work that way. However sometimes we have to have a lung removed because of disease or an accident. There are many people who have lived a long time with only one lung.
What is the complete cycle of blood from hearth to lungs?
De-oxygenated blood enters the right atrium from the vena cava and then passes through the tricuspid valve into the right ventricle. It is then sqeezed/pumped through the right semi lunar valve into right pulmonary artery which transports blood to the lungs. Oxygenated blood returns to the heart via pulmonary veins and enters the left atrium, passes through the bicuspid valve to enter the left ventricle which contracts, sqeezing/pumping the oxygenated blood through the left semi lunar valve into the aorta from where it is transported to all the body's cells.
What are the short term effects of landfills?
Short term affects of landfills is that they are very stinky and noxious. They also may bring unwanted animal life to the area.
yes, well they give out Co2, heat and water. heat and water because In your lungs, water evaporates and heat is conducted into the air that you exhale. So not really "waste"
