Can silicosis cause cancer?

To the extent that silicosis can lead to tumor production, and the formation of tumors is thought to be a stepping-stone for carcinogenesis, yes, the occurrence of silicosis can herald in cell dedifferentiation, and thus cancer.

What happens to gases you inhale?

According to wikipedia's article on the composite of gasses which we breathe every day (Air): It contains roughly (by molar content/volume) 78.08% nitrogen, 20.95% oxygen, 0.93% argon, 0.038% carbon dioxide, trace amounts of other gases, and a variable amount (average around 1%) of water vapor.

What are the names of the tubes that air travels down to get to the lungs (in order from biggest to smallest)?

Trachea, primary bronchi, secondary bronchi, tertiary bronchi, bronchioles, and alveoli!

Can you get lung cancer twice?

The short answer is yes. The long answer depends somewhat on what you mean by "twice". Cancers can relapse, meaning the original disease returns. This usually happens because microscopic "islands" of cells from the original neoplasm (tumor) were missed during removal procedures. Sometimes this is due to error, but usually it is due to the bloodstream carrying neoplastic cells to other parts of the body. If these cells stop in a cytologically compatible place (a place with similar cells in a biological sense) they can grow there. This is called metastasis and has a poor prognosis. The most compatible place for neoplastic cells to grow is elsewhere in the lung, or in the other lung.

One can also develop an unrelated lung cancer - either the same kind or a different kind. This is a very rare occurrence, made more probable by those exposed to risk factors for cancer, such as exposure to smoke (from smoking or other sources) or fine particulates of certain sorts (asbestos, for example).

What is the rattle in your chest when you cough?

What is static lung volume?

These volumes are needed when there is suspicion of restrictive pattern, which can be presented along with obstructive pattern with FVC < 80%.

Are the gullet and windpipe connected to the lungs?

The gullet, also known as the esophagus, leads to the stomach, not the lungs. The windpipe, also known as the trachea, does connect to the lungs.

How respiration is affected at high altitudes during space travel and under water?

High altitude affects respiration because there is less oxygen in the air. Because of this, more and stronger breathing is needed to supply oxygen to the bloodstream.

How is the lung function affected by fibrosis?

The mucus that forms from cystic fibrosis affects the gas exchange in humans. The build up from cystic fibrosis can affect the gas exchange by increasing carbon dioxide and decreasing oxygen.

How long does it take for your blood to get to the lungs?

That depends on how fast you breathe. Air doesn't really go "through" the lungs, by the way, it goes in and back out.

How is the removal of Carbon dioxide from the lungs?

== == Through the process of gaseous exchange; air is warmed, moistened and cleaned as it is drawn into the nasel passage by mucus in the trachea. This moistened air then enters alveoli where gaseous exchange occurs. Around each alveoli there is a series of capillaries, O2 dissolves in to a moisture lining in the alveolus and then in to the red blood cells while CO2 diffuses out of the plasma and red blood cells which is then removed from the body by expiration.

The answer above is correct; however, in specific the blood sent to the lungs is CO2 rich, while the air in the alveoli is oxygen rich. This setup creates what is called a "diffusion gradient"-- things will try to travel from a location of high density to low density. This gradient causes CO2 to travel out of the blood and into the air while oxygen is transferred into the bloodstream.

What are cilia lungs?

the hairs on our lungs cells are called cillia.one of their purposes is to clean the lungs and keep the blood flowing in and out of your lungs

How long does it take to get cancer by smoking weed?

Marijuana has not been found to cause cancer.

= "How long does it take to get cancer by smoking weed?" =

This is not a very good way to be thinking about it. Myguess is that either you're worried you might get cancer because you've smoked weed, or you want to know if you can do it safely and not have to worried. Or, I'm wrong about you and you're just curious :)

My advice to you would be this: The risk of getting cancer because of smoking weed is not what you should be worried about. I would be more worried about what it can do to your mind over time. You won't be crazy, you'll just be burnt out, a few seconds behind the rest of the world. Beyond that, smoking anything is bad for you. Your health in general will suffer. You won't have as keen a sense of taste or smell, and your heart and lungs just don't work as well while you're smoking.

There's nothing wrong with a little experimentation, just be careful and mindful, and know what you're doing.

Best of luck to you. Studies have not found that smoking marijuana causes cancer. This may be due to the fact that marijuana is not ingested as frequently as tobacco.

What gases are involved in lung diffusion?

1.blood

How do lungs self clean?

Lungs generally don't clean themselves. If you are a smoker and have tar in your lungs, you will NEVER get rid of it, it will only get worse. But you clean your lungs by coughing. This gets rid of any foreign material. If you have blood in your lungs, the blood will be absorbed into your body again, but if will never be cleaned completely. Also, if you have swallowed something and it has gone to your lungs accidentally, you may go to a doctor will will give you anti-biotics so that the food wont spoil and you prevent an infection. Why what happened?

What are the two air tubes that branch off the trachea and carry air diectly to the lungs?

The two branching tubes in the respiratory system are the bronchi. They are branches of the trachea.

What caueses Movement of air into the lungs?

Passive inspiration is accomplished solely by the diaphragm muscle. During passive inspiration, contraction of the diaphragm increases the vertical length of the thoracic cavity thereby greatly increasing its volume. In accordance with boyle's law, an increase in volume under constant temperature results in a decreased pressure which in this case falls below atmospheric pressure. As the thoracic pressure is now lower, air rushes into the thoracic cavity filling it up resulting in passive inspiration.

Where is mucous common location?

Throughout the respiratory system: in the sinuses, nose, throat, larynx, bronchi and lungs.

Can you donate a lung?
