Marching Bands

If the cart is light, the bells are usually light. Since they're so small and usually don't have resonators, it's a lot easier to move them

The band director is in charge of the band overall. However, a Drum Major is usually seen leading the band in performances (especially parades) and possibly conducts the band during their field show though this job is sometimes left to the director. Depending upon the size of the band there may be multiple Drum Majors either each serving on the same level or having a hierarchy with a Senior/Executive Drum Major followed by the Junior/Asst. Drum major.

Some marching bands also refer to these people as Field Commanders instead of Drum Majors, usually it just depends upon the organization.

Western Carolina University Pride of the Mountains Marching Band was created in 1938.

The first marching band to ever march during halftime at a football game was the University of Illinois' Marching Illini. They performed at halftime in 1907 during the University of Illinois' game against the University of Chicago.

Yes, it might. I mean, you won't loose like 20 pounds or anything, you might loose up to 5. When I was in marching band, I lost some weight, AND I got a tan. =)

In my five years of marching band, I've seen numerous injuries, but few of them really relating to marching. Lots of guard members get injuries from spinning, and sometimes band members get injured from being hit. Pulled muscles, rolled ankles, or falls could happen. But so far in my band, I've seen a sprained wrist from a front flip, a sprained ankle from swimming, a broken foot from falling down stairs, a broken toe from running into a wall, a broken collar bone from a football tackle, and lots of sunburn.

It can range greatly depending on where you get the uniform. If you have one custom designed for your band, it can be quite expensive. The artist will need to be paid and then it will still be approximately $250-$300 per uniform.

That is a matter of opinion. Just as some have favorite football teams, people have favorite DCI bands. It also depends on the show the band has that year. Every show is received differently. If the show isn't pulled off, they don't receive high marks.

it's not a big craze for guys, but there is one guy picc in our marching band section. (fyi, he's made a lot of friends with the rest of the girls in the section and there are lots of us. I'm not a friend of his but i do know him) it's a good oppurtunity tho to try and play in a popular instrument section and it was used not that very often.

They're used to make the troops march at a certain speed. Every time the drummer played a certain way, you're supposed to step with your left foot.
