Can you be divorced without a marriage settlement?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Assuming you mean some type of property settlement, then no, that's not possible. The exception of not dividing marital property according to the state marriage laws would be for one of the parties to sign an affidavit relinquishing all rights to all property acquired during the marriage.

In the Christian bible is there a biblical basis to ban Polygamy?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

No exactly. Polygamy is never forbidden in the Bible, and many honored prophets of the Old Testament were open polygamists.

Most Christians today believe that polygamy is immoral, but there are a small number of Christians who preach that polygamy is Biblical and accept the practice.

Another Answer:

There are not instances of polygamy in the New Testament.

1 Corinthians 7:2-3New International Version (NIV)

2 But since sexual immorality is occurring, each man should have sexual relations with his own wife, and each woman with her own husband. 3 The husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband.

And this strongly appears to be consistent with the Old Testament.

Genesis 2:24New International Version (NIV)

24 That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.

In a lack of faith, Abraham listened to his wife and had Ishmael with her servant. After his wife died, Abraham took Keturah and had 6 children. But only Isaac, the child of his wife, became the child of Promise.

Moses is said to have had two wives but no indication if this happened before or after the death of his 1st wife. Yet, because Moses was called 'God's friend' and walked with God, it can be assured that his 1st wife had died.

Indeed, all men in the OT who are called righteous only had one wife. The practice of a King, to keep peace with neighboring peoples customarily took one of the other King's daughters in marriage. King Solomon had 700 wives and 300 concubines - yet he was never called righteous and many scholars wonder if he will be judged to life or the 2nd death because of his sins.

Just like divorce which occurred, God did not intend marriage to have multiple partners.

How does an American citizen marry her British boyfriend?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

I married my American girlfriend by just coming to the USA and getting married. That's what my lawyer told me to do, it's the quickest way, then file for work permit etc.Work permit wait was 6 months.Green card was another 4 months, After two years of marriage file I-751 then permanant resident status with no restrictions.Make sure your passport has plenty of time left bring birth cert all schools qualifications.Welcome to America.

You can do the above, sure, but it is frowned upon, and wont always work. There have been cases where a UK citizen has gone to the US on the I-94 visa waiver from, got married to their partner, and applied for Adjustment of Status (AOS), and stayed in the US. Yes it is the quickest route, but it is far better legally to go the K1 or K3 visa route. Generally for AOS, you will need to prove WITHOUT DOUBT that you did not enter the US intending to marry, and that it was a spur of the moment thing. In some cases, your passport will be stamped with 'no AOS' upon your entry to the US, especailly if you mention a US Citizen boyfriend (and have a wedding dress with you!). The authorities do not really like this method, and seeing as the AOS would be only the first small step to legal permanent residence, it is best to do things 'by the book;, even though there will be a longer wait (generally 6 monthsish) and time appart sucks, it will set you up better in the long run. You can do it..but I wouldn't recommend it.

You can still travel to the US on an I-94 whilst the visa is being processed to visit your bf.

The below link has many postings on the pitfalls of this, and is a great site for any UK citizen who is planning on marrying their American partner and living in the US:

Can a US citizen marry an illegal alien whose visa has expired?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

NO

need more details to answer this question. specify what kind of non immigrant visa are your talking about.

YES. If you do NOT have a valid visa to remain in the US, that alone is grounds for deportation. Given that the US does not currently keep track of whose visas have expired, however, there is some time leeway to find a solution to the problem of not having a valid residency visa. However, if you run afoul of law enforcement in any manner, and they bother to check your immigrant status, you can be deported solely for lack of a visa, even if you are never charged (let alone convicted) of any crime. Lack of a proper visa is itself a crime.

Recent changes by the Department of Justice allow for a non-citizen spouse of a US citizen to apply for a permanent resident visa EVEN IF THEIR CURRENT VISA HAS EXPIRED OR THEY ARE HERE ILLEGALLY. Once this application is made, the non-citizen does not have to leave the country while the application is being processed, and cannot be deported solely for lack of a valid visa. The non-citizen spouse will have to return to their home country to pick up the actual visa once it is granted, since they will need to re-enter the country on a valid visa to register that they are here legally.

Essentially, the new process is thus for the non-citizen spouse:

  1. the non-citizen's visa status may or may not allow continued residence (or they may not have a visa at all)
  2. The citizen and their non-citizen spouse apply for a permanent residency visa for the spouse based on marriage
  3. The non-citizen applies for a waiver of the requirement to leave the country while the application for residency is pending. Prior to this year, this waiver was seldom granted. As of 2012, a change in the DOJ's viewpoint means that the waiver will generally be automatically granted.
  4. Wait 6-18 months for the residency visa to be approved.
  5. The non-citizen spouse must travel back to the country of their citizenship, and pick up their new US permanent residency visa at the US Embassy in their country (usually in the capital city)
  6. The non-citizen spouse can now immediately return to the United States, re-entering with the now-valid US permanent residency visa.

Can you use a Texas marriage license to get married in Vegas?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

According to the Dallas County Clerk, marriage licenses issued in the State of Texas can be used for ceremonies in other states. But, according to the Clark County Clerk in Nevada, you must obtain your marriage license in Nevada. You do not need to be a Nevada resident to get your license there. Both parties must appear in person before a Clerk at a Clark County Marriage Bureau location. There are several in Las Vegas.

If you want to get married in Las Vegas, you can apply for your license the same day of your ceremony. Marriage licenses are issued the same day that you apply and there is no waiting period after that to get married. The Clark County Clerk also has an online marriage pre-application on their website that you can fill out ahead of time. You can do this up to 60 days before.

Good luck!

Can you get marriage license in Kansas and get married in Arizona?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

You have to get married in the same state in which you obtained your marriage license. But you can apply for an Arizona marriage license if that is the state in which you have decided to get married. Just because you got a marriage license in one state doesn't mean you can't change your mind and apply to get married in a different state. But when you do get married, you have to have a marriage license in the state in which you get married. The marriage license is not recorded as a "done deal" until after the wedding, so it shouldn't be a problem.

Does filing your marriage license automatically change your last name?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

You don't change your name until after you are married and you only do this if you wish. There will be a small box on the marriage license that you will check if you intend to change your name. AFTER the wedding you go to all the important places like the bank, Social security, DMV, schools to change to your new name. It takes a couple of days to get it done. Make sure you have your license with you, your birth certificate and social security card. Start with the DMV and go to the social security because you will need a photo ID for the SS.

How much does it cost for a Nevada Marriage License in Las Vegas?

User Avatar

my first divorce cost me $350 in 2003 to divorce my daughter's father. that was having a paralegal filing out the papers, arranging the signing of said papers, and sending them to Tonopah, NV (cause we resided in NYE county). All in all took no more than one physical week from the time I paid, to the time I received papers back with the finalization. I'm anticipating this one to cost more, because of "local". Las Vegas is CLARK county... to me its worth looking into an hour drive for the speed of processing, and financial savings. However, because its divorce, I'm sure the headache will be present because of course "not our way". Sad world this is... truly

Where do you obtain NC wholesale license?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The first step is to get a State Business License. File the forms at your county auditors department. Depending upon the occupation separate accredititions or certifications maybe needed by the vendor or business which you would like to purchase wholesale materials.

If you buy wholesale there is still certain taxable and non-taxable items that can be provided to the end user. Make sure to keep track of the items purchased at wholesale and there end use for tax purposes.

Without the aid of valid information and contacts, finding products to sell at online auctions or web stores can become a frustrating and unprofitable nightmare. The advantage of knowing the real facts now, can save you both time and money!

Most people seeking legitimate wholesale products online have probably heard about many an eBay success story. These are the entrepreneurs who have found reputable wholesale companies to do their business with. The problem that exists for most potential auction sellers, is finding an honest, certified source of wholesale products that are free of markup costs, and come directly from either the distributor or even the factory itself. In the real world of online wholesaling, there exists an overwhelming amount of fraud and low rent middlemen, interested only in 'your' money.

Most valid and reputable wholesale product suppliers require that the people they do business with actually own or operate a small business. This includes but is not limited to, the possession of a small business license needed to operate a business that sells products or wholesale items online, from their State, Province or Territory. The acquisition of such a license or permit is not difficult to obtain, and is rather inexpensive. Practically anyone can apply, and it validates the home business entrepreneur as a real viable online entity that can be trusted. The schemers who are rarely equipped to do proper business through proper channels, practically never explain this. Again this is something that isn't obvious to most people, but is a vital, and potentially legal part of online wholesale marketing.

Failing to find genuine wholesale product sources for your online business can often mean the difference between making money, or losing it. It has been estimated by several sources that scams make up about 98% of all 'drop ship' and 'wholesale' Search Engine listings. The ability to choose between a factory authorized wholesaler and a con operation is of paramount importance to your success.

One must seek out publishers of Drop Shippers and Bulk Wholesalers that are eBay Certified Solution Providers, and certified Developers that are in good standing with the Better Business Bureau Online Reliability Program. These companies actually do exist, and can supply anyone with free information to help online retailers learn more about Real Wholesale Product Sourcing, and eBay Certified solutions!

Gett a tax id number...go to your local chamber of commerce and they will help you

Here's a nifty little article I found on the web:

Let's start with the basic business license. Most cities and/or counties may require that if you are starting a business you will need to first acquire a business license.

What is a business license?

By definition a business license is a legal authorization in document form issued by municipal and/or state governments and required for business operations. Don't get this confused with DBA.

So then what is a DBA?

DBA is an abbreviation for "doing business as." Certain jurisdictions may also use the terms fictitious business name, trade name or assumed name. DBA registration is necessary if your business operates under a name other than its legal name.

For a corporation, LLC, or other state registered entity, the legal name is the name on the filed articles. For all other business entities, the legal name is the personal name of the business owner or owners. Conducting business and opening a bank account under any name other than your legal business name is only possible after fulfilling your state's DBA filing requirement.

And what if you are selling items? Do most states require a state seller's permit?

If you sell, lease personal property or sell taxable services at a retail or wholesale level, you are required to obtain a Seller's Permit. If you have more than one location where sales are made, a separate license is required for each location.

You must obtain a State Employer Identification Number Also Called a State Tax Id EIN if you:

Pay wages to one or more employees

If your business is a corporation and you are an employee of the corporation (recommended so you can obtain all the tax free and deductible corporate fringe benefits)

if you are a sole owner and the sole employee of your business getting an EIN is not required as long as you report the financial results of your business on Form 1040, Schedule C. The IRS and the Social Security use your social security number to track self-employment tax.

A federal tax identification number (also know as an employer identification number or EIN), is a number assigned solely to your business by the IRS. Your tax ID number is used to identify your business to several federal agencies responsible for the regulation of business.

Any business offering products or services that are taxed in any way must get a federal tax ID number.

Here are some important resources to remember when filing for any of the above documents mentioned in this article. Just refer to the link below to get not only just in-depth information, but also excellent professional assistance. You won't be disappointed.

Who can sign as witness to marriage license?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

I'm not exactly sure what you mean about who can sign the license. In Arizona, you apply for your marriage license from the County Clerk's Office. If one of the applicants is a minor, you must provide a notarized parental consent form or have your parent accompany you to sign the consent form in person. In Arizona, the wedding ceremony can be performed by a Justice of the Peace, Ministers, Judges or Magistrates. After the ceremony, the marriage certificate is signed by both parties and the person performing the ceremony. I hope that your question has been answered. For information about your specific Arizona county, attached is a link to marriage license information for all of the Arizona counties.

If you get a marriage license in your home state is it valid to marry in another state?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

It is my understanding that if is is legal in the state you are married, it will also be legal when you return to your home state. I know people that married in one state because they couldn't in the state they lived in.

Answer2

That depends on many things, first if your talking about gay marriage then in Kansas, Montana, Utah, Oklahoma, Texas, Missouri, Alaska and South Dakota it will not be recognized. But all the other states it will be recognized. if your talking about opposite sex marriage then it is permitted anywhere no-matter what state your in. And lastly there are things called Common-Law-Marriage's and that's if you live in Kansas, Texas, South Dakota, Utah, or Oklahoma then they'll recognize some of the rights of marriage but not all, like Insurance, Banks, etc. but on the other hand if you say get a same-sex-marriage in say Massachusetts and you get your Loans, Bank accounts, Insurance, etc through Massachusetts then you can live in Kansas but your bills and loan would be in Massachusetts and you can joint-pay them as your state taxes would go by the individual person.

Can either parent sign a marriage license for their 16-year-old?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

It depend on you situation, If you can prove to a court that getting married is the best thing for you then you probably dont need your parents at all, but if you just want to get married at sixteen then you only need a parent who is a Legal guardian.

It depends on the state. Many states require the signature of both parents if they have equal custody.

If your parents are divorced then only 1 parent has to sign. My mom signed for me when I was 16 and me and my hubby are happily married!

If parents share joint custodial rights then both parents must give permission for a minor to marry.

If parents are married and one objects the minor cannot marry.
