Micrometer is having a ratchet to rotate which is pre-loaded to get standard thrust while measurement, whereas in the case of a vernier the accuracy of measurement depend on the pressure each individual applying while the measurement.

A tape measure is a length of narrow tape of fabric, metal or fibreglass that has length measurements printed on it. If it's a standard metal tape measure it's mounted in a small container with a spring to wind it in. They come in lengths from 3 to 35 feet. 16 feet is the most common although many framers and carpenters like to carry a 25 foot version. Longer tape measures can be made of fibreglass and go up to 300 ft. with 100 being common. These are hand wound on a larger reel and much used by landscapers or road workers.

You would use a fabric tape measure as used by tailors and dressmakers. Available in stores like Walmart.

The least count of an English micrometer can be calculated by dividing the value of one full rotation of the thimble by the number of divisions on the thimble. Typically, one full rotation corresponds to 1 millimeter (mm) or 0.1 cm, and if the thimble has 100 divisions, the least count would be 1 mm / 100 = 0.01 mm or 10 micrometers. Thus, the least count indicates the smallest measurement that can be accurately read on the micrometer.

A Vernier caliper, or a micrometer can measure diameter real well, and from that it's easy to calculate area.

It's used for measuring out small volumes of granular or powder materials such as cooking ingredients.

A feeler gauge is actually a set of very fine strips of steel used to measure small gaps such as plug gap of an auto plug, or gaps in bearing surfaces.

In order to read a micrometer, you will use the numbers on the thimble and on the sleeve. The numbers on the sleeve are broken down into 4 parts. Think of them as dollars with whole numbers and quarters. The numbers on the thimble can be represented as pennies, or ones. If the sleeve is at 9 3/4 and the thimble is at 4, the reading would be .979.

An oscilloscope is commonly used to measure frequency by displaying the waveform of the signal and showing the number of cycles per second. Other instruments like frequency counters or spectrum analyzers can also be used to measure frequency accurately.

If you are talking about a commercial measuring tape used for DIY projects or sewing then it would be millimeters or inches (some are calibrated down to 1/8th of an inch), depending on what unit of measurement you are using.

Opisometer

A thermometer, of which there are literally thousands of different kinds depending on their intended application.

The answer depends on what characteristic the tool is used to measure.

Almost every tape measure has a small tab on the start of the actual tape. Place this tab over one end of the surface you wish to measure and carefully pull the unit back to the other end of what you are measuring. When you get there, read off the number and that's it. Tape measures come in many sizes and types. Perhaps the most common is a handyman tape of 16 ft, usually 1/2 " wide metal tape. This does well for all casual measuring around the house and shop, and retracts automatically when you press a button on the end.

I currently have over 30 tape measures from a 3 ft x 1/4 on my key ring to my best 100 ft one on a large hand roll. This is a fibreglass tape and is wound in by rotating a handle. In between, I have a very old, but accurate 50 ft.plasticised fabric tape in a hard leather case and next down a 33ft x 1" metal tape in a standard casing This one is marked in feet one side and meters on the other. I have a 24ft 'centering' tape. This has conventional inch measurement on one side and halves of that on the other. This is handy for framing. - Keep your tapes clean and dry and they will serve you well for many years.
