a nutating engine is a new, though slightly similar to the wankel engine, where "a disk spins on a Z-shaped shaft that makes the disk oscillate. In a Wankel engine, a (roughly) triangular-shaped rotor spins on a straight shaft." (Corrected below)
source: http://blog.wired.com/cars/2008/06/pistons-we-dont.html
Correction: Actually, the disk doesn't spin at all. Only the shaft spins. If you look at the diagrams in the reference link, there's actually an "anti-rotation pin" sticking out of the disk to prevent that!
The above should read: "a disk wobbles (like a spun coin coming to a stop) because it's riding on a z-shaped shaft." Its edge sweeps the spherical wall of the chamber, and its conical sides meet the conical ends of the chamber.
Does thermal conductivity play a role in the development of residual stresses in metal?
Answer In most applications, I would not expect Thermal conductivity to be a factor. Only in applications where the part is exposed to extreme heat or cold or large fluctuations in temperatures under loads.
Why I-sectional beam used in railway tracks?
I-sectional beams are used in railway tracks because the strength to weight ratio is excellent. They are also used because they have extra area which allows for stiffening of the metal without extra materials.?æ
What is metal grain direction?
Metal Grain Direction is similar to Wood Grain Direction. It is the direction in which the metal was produced, so when you look at it under a magnifying glass and see lines, that is the direction in which the metal was made in the factory.

The pressure Equipment Directive is a European Directive intended for all member states of the EU. European directives are extremely difficult to police and enforce, so they are simply a directive which the respective governments must adhere to. It was initially intended to ensure a common standard of manufacturing safety and workmanship control, by stipulating design documentation, testing, material control and traceability, and inspection requirements during construction and fabrication of pressure equipment. By doing so, the standard and safety of pressure equipment across the boundaries of EU states, became more uniform, hence it resulted in a virtual removal of trade barriers. The Pressure Equipment Regulations are a means of an individual state (in this case UK) of legally enforcing the requirements of the PED.
Who was the inventor of the first variable-pitch propeller?
Wallace R. A MAN NAMED HERMAN SIMSHAUSER FIRST HAD A PATENT ON THE REVERSE PITCH PROP. HE WAS FROM RAVENNA OHIO.TWO WEEKS PRIOR TO GETTING THAT PATENT, HE RECEIVED A PATENT ON A VARIABLE PITCH FEATURE THAT ADJUSTED BLADES AUTOMATICALLY ACCORDING TO THEIR ROTATION SPEED. I'M NOT SURE OF THE EXACT DATE, BUT I DO KNOW IT WAS DURRING THE KENNEDY ERA. I SAW IT IN AN OLD LOCAL PAPER FROM THERE THE SAME YEAR THAT CAMBODIAN PRIME MINISTER NORODOM SIHANOAK SPOKE AT KENT STATE UNIVERSITY.
This is the real-deal:
On 7 February 1922 Wallace Rupert Turnbull patented the Variable Pitch Propeller. Considered one of the most important developments in the history of aviation, this mechanism allowed for change in blade pitch to suit flying conditions and airplane weight. When Turnbull was posthumously inducted into the Canadian Aviation Hall of Fame in 1977, his citation read: "The patient application of his aeronautical theses to a number of problems unique to flight, and more especially his invention of the successful variable pitch propeller, have been of outstanding benefit to Canadian aviation."

What is a military weapon designer's salary?
I am going to attend the United States Naval Academy and I am going to be a weapons designer. My Naval recruit officer discussed with me that you earn about $25,000 for every design, and $50,000 for every project you work with. If your design is bought by the military, you can get up to 25% of the profit. Meaning if the government buys $2 billion of your design, you can earn 25% of that profit. Weapon designers coming from big military colleges like the Naval Academy or West Point easily get into corporations such as Raytheon and Boeing. These designers usually make between $50,000 a month and $12 million a month.

the washer should be used where the exact matching between nut and bolt is required and also the chances of vibration is frequently occurring the washer is mainly used to make a good contact between the surfaces. the friction force occurring between the washer and the plate is so large because of u0 (co efficient of friction) .
that it absorbs the vibration.
What is the most expensive element in use?
It's difficult to answer this question specifically due to ever changing prices and the difficulty in getting information on certain elements. By far however the transuranic elements are the most expensive because of production and permit costs. Plutonium can cost around $4,000/gram and Californium can cost $10/mg or $10,000/gram.
