Mexico devalued its currency in 1992-93 at the rate of 1000 old pesos to one new peso. That means your coin is actually worth only 1 new peso. In any case old pesos are no longer in circulation.

The current exchange rate is about 10 new pesos to the U.S. dollar. Because the U.S. and Canadian dollars are roughly at par, the same rate would apply to your coin in Canadian dollars.

If it says "Ley 999" somehwere over its face, it should have an ounce of 99.9% pure silver.

Sadly Mexican the 1957-1967 pesos contain only a tiny bit of silver for how large the coin is, it contains .0514 of a troy ounce of silver, with current silver prices that is around $1.25 or so.

It's currently worth about $2.50 for the silver.

In circulated condition, the value is $2 or less.

If it's uncirculated, this coin will sell for between $6 and $8.50.

If the it's dated 1993 or later it's an ordinary circulation coin worth about 20 cents. If it's older, please post a new question with the coin's date. Also note that on Mexican currency the "$" sign stands for pesos, not dollars.

First you have to know whether it's really gold or just brass.

Second, the "$" sign is used in Mexico to indicate pesos, not dollars.

If it's brass, the coin has very little value because the peso was revalued in 1992-93 at the rate of 1000 to 1. That would make the coin worth 1/10 of a modern peso, or less than a US cent.
