An LDS Temple is a place where special ordinances are performed. Only members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints are allowed to enter a temple. This is a place of peace.

Yes. There are 19 stamps, postcards and cancellations and there are 4 in the U.S. The U.S. stamps are:

  1. Scott Catalog # 922 (issued May 10, 1944), It is a 3 cent stamp commemorating the completion of the 'Transcontinental Railroad' at Promontory Point near Ogden, Utah.
  2. Scott Catalog # 950 (issued July 24, 1947), Utah Issue is a 3 cent stamp with a picture of 'L. D. S. (Mormons) entering the valley of Salt Lake. The wording on the stamp that reads, "This is the place". 131,968,000 were printed.
  3. Scott Catalog # 2058 (issued Sept. 21, 1983), American Inventors Issue is a 20 cent stamp with the picture of 'Philo T. Farnsworth and the first television camera'. Philo T. Farnsworth was born in Beaver, Utah, raised and graduated from high school in Rigby, Idaho, where he created some of his inventions. Went to Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. Was a member of the L. D. S. Church (Mormon Church).
  4. Scott Catalog # UX83 (issued April 5, 1980), Is a 10 cent post card with the picture of the 'Salt Lake Temple, Salt Lake' on the card.

When was the Mormon temple built?

The first LDS (Mormon) Temple was built in Kirtland, Ohio and dedicated on March 27, 1836. (LDS Church Chronology 1805-1914, page 12)

The Second LDS (Mormon) temple was built at Nauvoo, Illinois and dedicated on April 30, 1846.

The Third LDS (Mormon) temple was built in Utah at St. George and dedicated on April 6, 1877. (LDS Church Chronology 1814-1914).

Today (May 2011) there are 134 temples in use around the world. Plus there are 10 more under construction and 16 more announced. For a total of 160 temples.

What lds temples were built in 2006?

There were two temples dedicated in 2006, the Sacramento California Temple and the Helsinki Finland Temple. The Rexburg Idaho, Twin Falls Idaho, Panama City Panama, Curitiba Brazil, Draper Utah, and Oquirrh Mountain Utah temples were under construction.

Most modern temples take about 1 1/2 years to build from groundbreaking to completion.
