How much on average does a motherboard cost?
You can buy a used one, but that wouldn't be very smart. It's better to simply buy a new computer, but a motherboard is about $200 - $300 .
Why should covers for expansion slots be used?
Air flow. Its easier for the fan to shoot out exhaust with the added preasure caused by all other holes closed, otherwise drafts and lower preasure could make the fan just blow dust around the inside of the computer case.

What are the factors to measure the speed of a computer system?
It can be Hertz (cycles per second). You'll see this with MHz (millions of cycles per second), GHz (billions of cycles per second). It's often used in marketing and specifications.
You may also see Instructions Per Second (IPS) or FLoating point OPerations per Second (FLOPS)
Which are the chip sets on a computer motherboard?
The shipsets are the set of standardised chips on the motherboard. These usually match up nicely to the generation of processor. On 1155, the relevant chipsets are: B75 (business chipset for non-overclocking chips), H77 (same use as previous) is recommended for Asrock H77M or Asrock H77 Pro4-MVP, Z77 (for overclockable ivybridge/sandbridge chips).
Why do motherboards have parallel ports?
I'm guessing this question means I'm getting old :) Parallel ports were originally added to a computer to communicate with printing devices. Later it was adapted for use with many other devices which needed higher data throughput (I know it's funny now what was considered high throughput in those days) such as ZIP drives, external hard drives and early external CD-Rom. Another cool (again showing...) thing about the port is that being parallel and having 8 data lines it was fairly easy to create hardware that you could control from the port (I created a few projects like this in my school days) without having a degree in Engineering. Until recently, most ports in your computer have been parallel to one extent or another, your PATA (old IDE port) was parallel, as were the ISA, standard PCI slots and so on. Newer technologies have replaced though as is always the way, and now most things are serial (PCI-E, SATA, USB, Ethernet)
Is a motherboard with two processors better than a motherboard with one dual core processor?
It depends on model. Some motherboards support two processors with four cores each. Usually two processors systems are used for server applications or as a workstations and do not work well as gaming stations. When usual desktops can have one dual core processor and perform better in gaming than the workstations.
Ports coming directly off the motherboard are called?
do you mean "motherboard I/O ports"? Eg. USB, PS/2, Serial, Parallel...
Where do you connector the red edge of 40-pin ribbon cable to an IDE hard drive?
The red edge of a 40-pin ribbon cable is connected to pin one on the IDE hard drive. If you fail to do so correctly, it may result in the hard drive being completely unable to communicate with your system.
What might be the symptom in Windows of unreliable memory on a motherboard?
There are many things that could point to a bad motherboard. Lockups, inability to boot up even to the point of seeing the POST, memory errors, random rebooting or unexpected shutdowns, or other types of instability. However, before the motherboard, there could be other issues at the root cause of these problems. Such issues could also be attributed to a failing power supply, one or more RAM sticks that have gone bad or that are not seated correctly, a defective processor, the machine getting too hot (such as if it is set right next to a household heating vent, water heater, space heater, etc.), the presence of magnets on the computer case or in the near vicinity of the computer (as a general rule of thumb, keep all magnets at least six inches away from all surfaces of the computer case), and much more. If you would like to have some guidance in what could be the problem in your case, feel free to drop me a line and we'll discuss your specific symptoms to narrow down the list of possibilities.
What processors are equal to the Intel Pentium III?
The AMD K6-III and early Athlon processors are roughly equivalent in speed and performance. Via C7 processors, although released much later, are close in terms of performance to a Pentium III.
Is there motherboard that has 2 or more CPU socket slot?
Yes, workstations and servers have 2 slot motherboards.
Where is the CPU located on the BTX motherboard?
The CPU socket gets placed more central but closer to the edge of the board farthest from the rear of the case. The idea is that a front fan, wind tunnel will feed air directly toward the CPU without obstruction.
Which motherboard is most likely easiest to configure?
Motherboards are shipped with factory default configurations you need not change, unless you are running non factory components that require power channeling or external monitoring. If you built your own computer with parts that are non standard, then you need only change the settings in the board's BIOS, or CMOS. Partnering chipsets is a good practice. Try to keep them fluid as they will communicate properly and all components will work as they are supposed to. For example, if you buy an ASUS board, try to match it with an ASUS graphic card. It doesn't matter if it's ATI or NVidia, it's the chipset that will count for complete communication and compatibility between them.
When should you update your BIOS?
Many times the bios shipped with the motherboard was shipped "before its time". The vendor provides updates from their website that fixes some of these problems. The supplier also updates the bios to support larger hard drives and newer processors and larger memory chips. You may need a bios update to support larger memories, new CPU's, or larger hard drives.
To take advantage of these improvements you need to download the proper bios file and bios flash utility.
If you have a Phoenix, IBM or non AWARD or AMI bios be sure to backup your bios using UNIFLASH (see our FAQs page). If the flash fails your board will be dead and makers such as HP, IBM, Dell and Gateway will not sell you a replacement chip. They will only sell you an entire motherboard for more than the cost of a new computer! With a backup file we can help you recover with just a chip. It is possible we may also be able to locate an AMI or AWARD bios that will work in your board, but in most cases they use boards that have parts missing and do not work with a standard bios from the motherboard maker.
What are the different internal parts of a computer?
They are the inside parts of a computer. If you think this answer is boring then thats probaly because i am young. i am only 9.By sumayya tafhimi
Which graphic card is suitable for Intel d945gclf motherboard?
Any PCI graphics card theoretically should work. However, I tried a GeForce 8400 on the motherboard and the computer refused to boot to Windows so be careful with your selection. I ended up using the integrated graphics.
What BIOS is used to change settings on the motherboard?
Anything that can read the BIOS chip.
It can be a computer or microprogramming software and hardware.
What are four kinds of cargo that the embedded wires of a bus of motherboard carry?
Electrical power
control signals
Data
What is the driving force which causes electrons to flow through conductors?
Voltage is responsible to flow the current in a circuit. Voltage is also known as potential difference or electric pressure. When there is a potential difference across a conductive circuit current starts flow from the higher potential to lower potential.
Can every CPU fit into every motherboard?
no it depends on what mother board you have , its mosst likely that the processor will work in any PC , look at the manufacturer of your mother board go onto the website and see if the processors is compatible with the mother board
thanks Dylan
AnswerNo, variations include form factor (the way they connect), instruction sets, voltage, number of registers and other internal components. There are wide differences between processor types and capabilities. Is RAM located on the motherboard?
Yes, RAM is on the motherboard. Just exactly where it is depends on the motherboard form factor. Yes, RAM is on the motherboard. Just exactly where it is depends on the motherboard form factor. yes
