The Bar-Headed Goose has been seen flying around Everest at up to thirty thousand feet.

Another bird that has been known to survive on Everest is the Chough, this bird has been seen as high as 7,920 meters.

it is 8848 metres high but its increasing by 3cm every year due to the Indian continent plate clashing into the other plate opposite it. this is what supposed to have created the himalayers.

Until 1852, Kangchenjunga was assumed to be the highest mountain in the world, but calculations based on various readings and measurements made by the Great Trigonometric Survey of India in 1849 came to the conclusion that Mount Everest, known as Peak XV at the time, was the highest.

The 1953 expedition was made up by John Hunt, George Band, Thomas Bourdillon, Charles Evans, Alfred Gregory, George Lowe, Wilfrid Noyce, Griffith Pugh, Thomas Stobart, Michael Ward, Michael Westmacott , Charles Wylie and many Sherpa's and Porters all helped put Hillary and Tenzing on the summit of Mount Everest

The first solo ascent of Everest was made by the Italian mountaineer Reinhold Messner on the 20th August 1980.It was carried out without the aid of bottled oxygen.Messner's route was via the North Col/North Ridge.Two years previously Messener,partnered by Peter Haebler made the first ascent of Everest without oxygen via the South Col route .

The first Irishman to reach the summit of Mount Everest was Dawson Stelfox, he did so on the 7th October 1993.

It is thought that Mount Everest grows a few millimeters each year.

Because of the harsh conditions and the fact that practically everything is frozen, it is no surprise that very few plants are designed to survive and thrive in such conditions. However, one plant that has been found on Mount Everest is the Allium Hybrid.

The three formations, or units, which make up the geology of Mount Everest are divided into sections. Geologists have named these, from the bottom to the summit respectively, the Rongbuk Formation, the North Col Formation and the Qomolangma Formation.

The lower section of Mount Everest is known as the 'Rongbuk Formation' and makes up the first 7,000 meters. This region of Everest is formed from sillminite-K-feldspar grade schist and a banded metamorphic rock called gneiss, which has a similar composition to granite. Also a number of dikes of leucogranite and sills, which are horizontal sheets of igneous rock stuck between older rock beds.

The middle part of Mount Everest is known as the North Col Formation, 7,000 to 8,600 meters. This section, itself, can be divided into different parts, the top 400 meters, named the 'Yellow Band', is formed from linked beds of a brown, Middle Cambrian, marble (diopside-epidote-bearing), muscovite-biotite phyllite (which contain silicate minerals) and semischist (a partly metamorphosed, layered sedimentary rock).

The Qomolangma Formation, otherwise known as the 'Jolmo Lungama Formation', consists of layers of Ordovician limestone and recrystallized dolomite, along with siltstone and laminae, together forming colours ranging from white to dark gray. Starting at 8,600 meters above sea level (above Yellow Band), the Qomolangma Formation ends at the summit.

Tenzing got his first opportunity to join an Everest expedition when he was employed by Eric Shipton, leader of the reconnaissance expedition in 1935. As a 20 year old his chance came when two of the others failed their medical test. As a friend of Angtharkay he was quickly pushed forward, and his attractive smile caught the eye of Shipton, who decided to take him on.

There has been around 280 people die on Mount Everest while trying to reach or return from the highest summit in the world. The most common reasons for climbers deaths on Mount Everest are from falling, avalanches, illness, high altitude, tiredness and the extreme weather change.

The first male to reach the summit of Mount Everest was Edmund Hillary on the 29th May 1953.

The first female to reach the summit of Mount Everest was Junko Tabei on the 16th May 1975.

The summit of Mount Everest is made up of rock covered in many feet of hard snow. The summit is covered in prayer flags, these are left by climbers and Sherpa's to thank the gods for their safe ascent, you will also find flags from many different countries, banners from sponsors, photographs of loved ones and other small gifts for the gods. The main item you will see on the summit is 6 foot metal tripod to represent the true summit. The tripod was left there in 1975 by a Chinese expedition, since then everyone acknowledges this as being the high point. Many climbers also use it to tie flags etc to it to stop them being blown away.

well there are three stages which get get colder the higher you get the first stage zone at the tor is about 100 Fahrenheit below zero the second stage zone 15 Fahrenheit below zero and the third stage zone closest to the ground stays at 45 Fahrenheit

The first man to climb Mount Everest was Edmund Hillary from New Zealand. He was part of the 1953 British Mount Everest Expedition. He reached the summit at 11.30 in the morning on the 29th May. His climbing partner Tenzing Norgay reached the summit not long after.
