Are oasis rubbish?

Everyone has their opinion, but Oasis were probably the most important British band of the last twenty years simply because they led the Britpop movement which saw British alternative rock bands take centre stage in the United Kingdom after barren years of synth and bubblegum pop which dominated the charts years before. Many bands such as Blur, Radiohead and The Verve all followed suit by releasing critically and commercially successful albums.

Oasis released their massively critically acclaimed debut Definitely Maybe in 1994 and followed it up in 1995 with the massive (What's The Story) Morning Glory which went on to become a worldwide hit selling over 25 million copies and cementing it's reputation as the biggest British album since The Beatles' Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band - true to say that no other band since has seen hype quite like it. Also, they were famous for their high quality b-sides from the singles that were released during this period.

The band suffered a dip in commercial and critical claim thereafter, and although they continued to release the hit singles, their albums there on were seen as repetitive and lacking the inspiration of earlier success. Yes, they were unoriginal (inspired by the British guitar bands of previous decades, although critical Beatles comparisons's go a bit too far - and their lack of originality shouldn't take anything away from their terrific work in the 1990s) and their later work lacked any relevance, but they continue to inspire many bands today who cite them as an influence, aswell as budding youngsters. Their live performances varied from absolutely terrific to abysmal - such is the case for many rock n' roll acts.

So are Oasis rubbish? Certainly not - the fact that they produced two era defining albums in two years (94/95) plus a whole range of fantastic b-sides proves this. Later years of Oasis, well that is certainly debatable, particularly if you take the dreadful Heathen Chemistry into account (only a few good songs on that one - the rest is just complete drivel) but forgetting that, the music world would of been a poorer place without the band. They elevated the attention of many other alternative rock bands at a time of depressing American grunge and bubblegum pop, and in this age of illegal downloading where music is so easily attainable it's unlikely we will ever see another band experience such massive hype like that again.

How many hits do oasis have?

About 40 world-wide famous songs (I'm guessing--probably more) and are famous for their first two albums--Definitaly Maybeand (What's the Story) Morning Glory-- and are even infamous for disappointing world-wide fans on their 3rd studio album, Be Here Now. Despite them practically being on the black-list, they have countless, terrific songs. Even now in their awaiting album, Dig Out Your Soul, they are prepared to make probably their biggest come-back with psychodellic songs and lyrics very reminiscent of The Beetles. Now, granted as the greatest Brittish Band (in history!) the Gallagher brothers are here to entertain the ear. Don't take my word for it, though! Go to youtube.com (search) oasisnetofficial under channels and listen to all of their greatest hits!

Also the song wonderwall in Morning Glory was a big hit. Oasis rocks
