Skiing is probably one of the most popular winter sports. Every year, millions of people would hit the snowy slopes for some challenge and fun. Skiing is an equipment oriented sport and it would be hard to enjoy this activity if you don't have the right equipment.
Skis were originally made from wood. In the modern days, the common materials are fibreglass and aluminium. Skis are made from a variety of materials to provide various degrees of flexibility and strength in parts of skis. Poles are also used to help maintain balance.
The first type of skiing was cross country skiing. Skiing evolved from snowshoeing in Northern Europe and Asia where it was a form of transportation. The Nordic was the first to do cross country skiing, where they used loose toe straps as bindings on the skis and walking sticks for balance. Then, downhill skiing came in the modern era. In 1850, a Norwegian, Sondre Norheim constructed a birch binding which allows skies to ski without losing them. Norheim bindings provide more control than leather straps, and perhaps were the first stiff bindings. Later on in 1896, firmer bindings were developed Matthias Zdarsky, the skis allow a skier to turn more effectively. With more improvements made to skis, skiing became the popular winter sports today.

In slalom alpine skiing how do skiers know which poles to go around?
Traditionally, each gate is marked by two poles of the same color, and the racers have to ski in between two poles. Both tips and feet have to break the imaginary plane connecting between two poles. So generally, racers just go around the inside pole of each gate. To simplify the setup of the course, the outside poles are sometimes left out. The exceptions are the combinations: under gate, hair pin, flush. Unlike most common gates that are across the fall line(horizontal), combinations are made up by two poles of the same color along the fall line( vertical). Combinations have to be set up by two poles. To sum this up, go in between two poles of the same color, ski to the outside of the single poles. Watch some races and you'll learn.

How do you attach rottefella nnn bc auto ski bindings?
The bindings come with installation instructions, but if you got used bindings that didn't come with instructions...
Quick question: are you putting these on new skis, or on skis that already have bindings on them? If they're old skis, remove the bindings already installed and use the old screw holes for the new bindings. If they're new skis, take them to a ski tech. You've got to drill holes in your skis and there are lots of calculations involved - how much you weigh, the skis being used and the way you ski determine where your boots should be on the ski.
Is nordic skiing more dangerous than alpine skiing?
It really depends on whether your talking about in the Olympics or referring to Nordic skiing as cross country skiing.
Nordic events
Ski jumping: is quite dangerous, but due to the steepness of the landing area, is not as dangerous as you might think.
Cross country skiing: carries very little dangers.
Combined event: carries the same dangers above.
Alpine events such as the slalom, downhill event, super giant slalom ect......
Often feature high speed crashes, this is very likely to injure any skier, so i would say that alpine skiing is more dangerous.

Non-Trail: sometimes you wont find your way unless you know it well. a good thing is when its foggy you can see better in the trees!
What is a DIN ski binding chart?
DIN is a German standard for the release settings on your ski bindings. The setting is determined by a combination of skier height, weight, boot length, and skiing ability.
Adjusting the DIN setting either compresses or decompresses a spring in the binding. That compression determines just how much force is required for the bindings to move and release the boot. Higher settings require more force, lower settings require less.
Here is a web page that explains it and shows a DIN chart (about halfway down the page):
http://www.skiernet.com/ski-gear-guide.html
You can adjust DIN settings yourself, as most shops will just use the same DIN chart and information anyway when setting it, and will charge you for it. BUT Springs flex, wear, and corrode over time, so the numbers on your bindings may not reflect what the spring will actually do. To have this checked (for instance on older bindings) you need to ask for a BFU test, where a machine physically tests the spring. The spring will also wear out faster if it is set very high (near the max DIN setting on your particular binding, usually a highlighted number), so be aware of this factor.

Do world cup skiers use the same skis as you buy?
Not unless you are a ski racer yourself, and were lucky enough to get top of the line equipment. World Cup skiers get the best race skis that their factory makes. They have many different pairs of the same type (downhill skis, for example) that they will test to see which are the fastest. Race skis are highly specialized and differ greatly from demo skis or skis that the public usually buys. You can see this reflected in the price. Race skis typically run $800-$1000 for the skis, not including bindings.
