This is from a study which seems to be saying 'withdrawal' of pain medication, whether a drug addiction, or just a chronic pain patient will escalate the virus.

Similar to what they found in their previous study,3 Ho and his colleagues learned that removing morphine boosted levels of HCV RNA (the genetic material used by the virus) and hepatitis C viral protein in the cells. This, in essence, indicates that the viral infeWithdrawing the morphine also blocked interferon-alfa production in the liver cells compared to cells in which morphine was not withdrawn. Since interferon-alfa is a critical self-defense mechanism used by liver cells to fight off attacks by the hepatitis C virus or HIV, the findings suggest that drug abusers who quit using morphine can weaken their immune system's ability to defend the body against an HCV infection, and provides a favorable environment for hepatitis C viral growth in the liver action is spreading.

Next, Ho's group wanted to understand why removing morphine created such a beneficial environment for the hepatitis C virus. They learned that removing morphine from liver cells blocked the production of interferon-alfa by, in turn, suppressing its activator, interferon regulatory factor-7 (IRF-7). The team also found that the ability of interferon-alfa to block HCV replication (or the model of HCV in this case) fell by nearly two-thirds.

The same detrimental effect of morphine removal also occurred in relation to manmade interferon alfa. This manmade, or recombinant, form is similar to the interferon medication used for people with hepatitis C today. When synthetic interferon was added to the cell lines, they demonstrated a strong ability to fight off the hepatitis virus. However, when morphine was withdrawn from the cells, the anti-HCV ability of interferon-alfa "was significantly diminished," Ho and his colleagues wrote.

These results were observed when morphine was directly withdrawn or indirectly removed by using naloxone, they reported, and even to a greater extent in the latter case.

"Collectively, these new observations in conjunction with our earlier findings support the notion that opioid abuse is a co-factor that promotes HCV replication," wrote Ho and his colleagues.

They recommend both clinical and epidemiological studies be launched to better define the rule of drug abuse in the context of HCV infection. In the meantime, they say drug abusers who use such opioids as morphine, followed by periods of withdrawal due to lack of supplies, may be doing much more harm to their livers.

"Our findings provide a plausible interpretation of the high failure rate of interferon-alfa therapy in intravenous drug users," the investigators concluded. "The identification of mechanism(s) involved in morphine's action on the anti-HCV effect of interferon-alfa has the potential to improve interferon-alfa-based treatment for HCV-infected IV drug users."

Until recently, there were no data on the effects of opiates on HCV replication or the development of liver injury and fibrosis, one of the earliest features of progression to cirrhosis," wrote Moore and Dusheiko.

"The growing implication from these and other studies is that continued opiate abuse leads to enhanced viral replication, liver injury, and … fibrosis. Further studies are required to determine whether these effects occur in humans, as well," they wrote.

It depends on the opiates and your metabolism, but yes, expect failure. If you were prescribed the opiates from a physician, ask for a copy of the prescription, or take a doctor's note (signed) stating your need for the prescription. If you were taking these without a prescription, for a valid medical condition, I would suggest seeing a physician for appropriate evaluation and treatment.

"Opiate Naive" is a term used to describe people who do not have a tolerance to opiates. Opiates are a group of medications, that if used reguarly, produce physical dependence/tolerance. Somebody who has a tolerance to, or a physical dependence on, opiates will be able to tolerate much higher doses of opiates than somebody who doesn't. A tolerance to opiods (opiods are a type of synthetic opiate - examples of opiods include Demerol (pethidine) and Methadone) will also result in tolerance to opiates and vice versa.

Yes, and no. The suboxone will block most opiates, especially if you've been on it a while. 8mg's of suboxone has a good bit of naltrxone in it, that's the blocker. Oxicodone of any sort will not work, unless you use HUGE amounts. Complete waste, will get you angry big time, Heroin will work after a bout 6 hours, but again a large dose is needed, dangerous!!! Fentanyl will work.....sort of depends on what you are looking for, euphoria, or pain reduction. Suboxone will work for addiction problems, that is it works VERY well for most given a thorough chance! You can even do very well after a month or so on less than 4mg's. The problem I've encountered is the naltrexone is toxic, and had made me sick after 3 years of suboxone use. Now I'm really stuck, sick from it, sick w/o it. Going to try and do a small amount of methadone instead for a few weeks, then try and go back on to a small dose of sub. This is a lot more than you wanted to know, but let me say the suboxone has kept me alive for 3 years that I never have had without it..... so not a bad deal, give it a REAL chance!! Yes, Certo does work. You need to get a gatorade that is yellow, like citrus or lemon lime. Dump some gatorade out a little and add the liquid Certo to your bottle. Chug it down, fill the bottle back up with h2o and drink that. Drink as much water as you can within about an hour or two before the test. Make sure you take some vitamin b or a multivitamin to make your urine yellow. Make sure you pee at least three times. It doesn't have to be a lot just enough to start getting the clear urine out. Don't wait longer than 2 hours before taking the test. I waited one hour and passed. I am about to take another one again and plan to do it again. I have heard that doing the Certo the night before and again the next day can make the results come out even better. Make SURE YOU ARE ON AN EMPTY STOMACH. I would recommend that you don't eat after about 5 the night before if your gonna do it the night before and then nothing the next day at all. It also depends on your weight. If you are very big your chances are lower and you might want to do it twice. I did it just one time on an empty stomach and I passed. I am on legal meds. I take two different pain meds and also anxiety meds and non of it showed. I did the Certo because I didn't want to have to explain that I had to take Narcotics on a daily basis in fear that I wouldn't get the job. I did however take my meds with me and disclosed I was prescribed it. It works for Marijuana too since my friend who is a heavy smoker is the one who told me about Certo. Good Luck. No, Nucynta (tapentadol) will not show up as an opioid. It is a Schedule II drug, however, and may show up on a drug test if someone is looking for it. It will not show up as an opioid (opiate) compounds, but will show up as itself.

Oxycodone isn't usually used medically by injection so a conversion is unavailable. 5mg morphine by injection is equal to about 15mg of oral morphine. 5mg morphine is probably about equal to 5mg oxycodone by injection.

Phenergan (generic: Promethazine) is an anti-nausea medication. It is commonly prescribed along with narcotic pain medications to eliminate nausea. I believe they also make a phenergan/codeine combination pill that helps to prevent nausea and eliminate pain.

It certainly doesn't help. From a practical standpoint, any drug abuse affects the entire body. Blood vessels along with everything else. Less blood circulation, less erection. Also, most people are not stimulated by opiates, the just nod out. Hard to get an erection when you are passed out. If you are talking about prescribed medication taken in the prescribed dosage, after you become used to the dosage, it may slow your response time a bit, but you should still be able to get an erection. The problem the opiate is prescribed for would have to be considered also.

The only Opiate that I know of with a ceiling effect is Suboxone which is 32mg(probably because it has Naloxone in it but I'm not sure if that's why). But that is a VERY high dose for a non-tolerant user. This ceiling effect can also be broken if taken with Benzodiazepines, Alcohol, and probably Barbiturates too. Other Opiates like Oxycodone don't have a ceiling effect and can be deadly to those who are not tolerant to it's effects. Also don't take other people's advice on how much to take (besides a doctor or pharmacist.) That goes for any Opiate. One man's dose could be another man's death sentence (or woman's of course.) Always look up pills with a well respected Pill ID source (I use Drugs.com). And always look up or ask a doc or pharmacist what a normal starting dose is. Opiates are very addictive as well so it's best to only use them if you DON'T have a source of getting a bunch more. But it's best to stay away from them completely if you can. Ignorance is bliss with taking those things and every opiate addict who isn't take them for physical pain as prescribed know what I'm talking about. I say if you have to try drugs and be a "rebel." Stick to a little weed. And if you say "Weed is getting boring. I wanna try something stronger." You should re-evaluate you current life situation and quit using drugs all together. The nalaxone has no effect on the ceiling effect of the chemical called buprenorphine, I am a user of subutex generic is called buprenorphine it in itself has a cieling effect, in fact I get a ceiling effect at 8 milligrams, if I take more than 8 mills it does nothing more to me, I can take 24 mills or 32 mills or I can take 100 mills it makes no difference, taking more than 8 mills does nothing more to me, this is why doctors have been allowed to prescribe this to addicts, it is not an abusable drug. Yes one can inject pure buprenorphine and I have done this, it is not worth the trouble. The nalaxone in soboxone is there to prevent one from injecting it, nalaxone has a large molocule and is not absorbed in ones mouth is only works if one injects it.
