How do you grow millet for parakeets?
You grow millet for your parakeets by planting the seed from the stalks you purchase (there are always a few in the bottom of the bag) in rich soil that is a little sandy for good drainage. Do not plant the seeds very deep, just cover them with soil slightly. Millet doesn't like to be waterlogged. You can grow it in your yard or in pots. The birds love to nibble the green shoots as they begin to come up, so as you thin the crop, don't toss these tidbits out! The millet plant will grow, depending on the variety, to about 1 foot or a bit more. There are some types that grow up to 15 feet, but I've never run into that variety, whatever type it might be. The red millet I plant grows to about 1 foot. The seed head begins to form, and if you really, really want to make your birds happy, once the seeds develop but before any begin to turn brown at all, let them have a stalk. They will flip out! Only allow the millet that you plan to dry and store to turn brown before harvesting. I have had no problem with birds coming into the area and eating my millet because I guess most outdoor birds don't as fond of it -- or maybe because I feed them their own seed mix and they don't have to try to get to those stalks. Also, plant the other seeds from your bird's seed mix. Wheat or oats are relished by the little fellows, again best picked when still green but you can harvest some that has dried for serving later. Everything in your bird's seed mix will grow. IF you plant the seeds and maintain them as you would any other weed (in order words, give them some water and ignore them) and they do not sprout and come up, you have either planted them too deep OR your seed is no good and you shouldn't feed it to your parakeet!

Why does a Parakeet's nose change colors?
When a parakeet is young, both males and females have a white or peach colored seer (the patch of skin around the nostrils). When they become older, it is easier to determine the sex of the parakeet by the color of the seer. Pink or reddish seer indicates female, where as blue or purple indicates male. Sometimes the seers on females can change intensity of red as well. from a light color to a deep red as well.

How do you make a budgie jungle gym?
You get a whole bunch of budgies, and a big tube of super glue...
Violet (not purple) budgerigars aren't as common as lighter colors, but they are not extremely rare. Violet budgerigars have a genetic mutation that causes their black pigment to be more concentrated than a normal budgerigar. Blue and violet budgies aren't actually blue. They are gray, but the structure of their feathers reflects the light and makes the gray pigment look blue. This is the same for all birds with blue (or green) feathers. A normal (green) budgie is actually yellow with grey markings, but it looks green because the grey pigment looks blue.
What kind of mate would be attractive to a female sociopath?

Your parakeets puffs his feathers out what does that mean?
All birds will do this to keep warm.
When they puff their feathers out, air gets "trapped" within the feathers and warmed up by the birds body heat. It's like a home-made blanket.
If your bird is doing this regularly, make sure their cage is nowhere near a draft or a window which is constantly open, but also make sure they are not in direct sunlight, as extensive heat exposure will kill a bird.
You can also invest in a hanging bird bed. This is basically a tunnel made of fabric which is placed in their cage, the bird sits inside it to sleep while keeping warm at the same time.
Why does my parakeet have a crooked neck?
it might have the same problem as my cat. he was born with a crooked neck so i took him to the vet and she said that he never developed an ear drum in his right ear so that's why his neck is permanently cocked to that side.
Can you force your parakeets to mate?
No. First, they may be the same sex. Even if they are male and female, they have to want to. Birds don't mate just because they are the only ones available, They choose their mate for whatever reason they do. Pretty much like we do.
Why is your Parakeet knocking its food and water bowls over?
it probably doesn't like the food you are giving it. make sure it is parakeet food. if you are trying to experiment, make sure you know what food it likes to have it as backup. if it can fly try letting it out, it might want to play...
