Obvious answer: your mom's cooking blows dude. Peach cobbler isn't supposed to smell awful, it is supposed to be a treat, a dessert. Buy one from the store, or try having someone else make one. That isn't normal.

It depends on your soil type, fertilization, growing season type or cultavar of peach and location (what zone you are in ) . I am in zone 8-A here in Washington and have 12 peach trees. My 'Frost' trees took 3 years to bare , 'Elberta' only 2 and my 'Redhaven' two of them took 3 years and the rest took 4 and one even took 5 years to bare. I had almost given up on the late bloomer but as of today 07jun09 it has twice as many peaches as the other 'Redhaven'

Also, if you mean the flat kind of wooden box with a plastic form to hold the peaches in a pattern in a single layer, the fruitstands in my area normally have 48 peaches to a box.

A nectarine has been selectively bred to have a slick skin with none of the fuzz of a peach. Other than that it's hard to tell the difference. Nectarines are a little more tart, but they taste very similar to a peach. You can use them just like peaches in baking or in making jams and preserves.
