Prior to CS4, panels were referred to as palettes. A panel or palette is a box (usually located on the right hand side of the screen, but moveable) that allows you to change options associated with a Photoshop feature.

For example, the layers panel or palette is used to manipulate layers; the character panel or palette is used to manipulate text.

Photoshop is an image editing program. Resolution is the term used for how dense an image is pertaining pixels. Photoshop can handle any range of resolution as long as the computer has enough speed and enough RAM (Random Access Memory) to handle large resolution images.

Within Photoshop, resolution refers to pixels per a measure of length. In the US, it is usually measure as pixels/inch. In Europe, pixels/centimeter. A pixel is the smallest "part" of an image, so higher the pixel/inch gives the image more detail and "crispness."

In Photoshop by default Background layer is locked. To unlock it double click on layer and confirm on OK button in New Layer dialog, You are not creating another layer (title of dialog can confuse) but converting Background layer to normal which can be moved around or in another document. Another way to lock and unlock layer is to click on padlock icon at top of LAYERS palette. When layer is locked with this function, padlock icon is highlighted, click on layer to select it then click padlock icon to unlock layer.

The purpose of color photography is to make an image that is more realistic than a black and white photo of the same subject would be. Color photography is also able to capture more information, as it can record whether, for example, the grass is green (growing) or brown (not growing).

It's located on that side panel with all the other tools. It's in the group with the Sponge Tool and Dodge Tool. It looks like a hand.

Advantages of photo editing are the ability to correct issues with a photo, and the ability to change backgrounds and do other fun things with pictures. Disadvantages to photo editing is that it gives people the ability to take a persons picture and change it. Someone can make fake photos of people doing things that have not really been done.

One can change the font or text color in Photoshop by first clicking the Text tool button. Then when the Text toolbar appears, click the color palette button and select the color wanted.

The latest version of iPhoto has a Facebook button (bottom right corner) which lets you upload pictures directly to Facebook. Alternatively Facebook produces a plug-in for iPhoto that will upload pictures. (See links below)

"CMYK" stands for Cyan, Magenta, Yellow & Black (a "K" is used partially because the letter appears in the word "Black", but primarily because using "B" could cause the uneducated to think it stands for "Blue"). The term "CMYK" is used in the print manufacturing industry to indicate a type of printing where various intensities of each of the 4 colors are used to achieve the final printed product. The most common alternative to CMYK is "RGB" (Red, Green, Blue), which is also used to achieve a final visual product, although the (current, but possibly changing) industry standard for physically printed material (books, magazines, etc.) is CMYK. RGB is more commonly used for digital images. Generally speaking, the CMYK format is visually more dull and often appears more desaturated. For example, if a designer were to convert an RGB image to CMYK, the pertinent color profile settings in Photoshop would attempt to match the colors in the image as closely as possible, but it is likely that the image would appear less "rich" or "vibrant".

Select the layer (or part of image) you want to resize, then hit Ctrl-T, or select Transform Selection from the Edit menu. Then adjust the bounding box and click the checkmark when you are done. You can hold down shift before dragging from a corner of the box to constrain the proportions of the image as you resize.

The lasso tool is one of the selection tools with a variety of options

As well as the lasso tool select pixels the ones you go over with the tool and you can remove it or put it a different spot

Open Photo Shop then press CTRL+O OR click on File menu in upper left corner and choose Open from list, then navigate to folder with pictures, select the required image and Just click on Open Button. Your image will be open in Photo Shop.

I downloaded free adobe photo shop but they asking about Serial Numbers but i didn't have that Serial Numbers

press W for the magic wand, if you don't see a wand in CS2+ right click on the tool that's selected and than make it the magic wand.

those are your three options without going into layers or colors.

This makes anything inside the layer you have selected, black and white, grayscale.

But there is a difference of a grayscale color mode and grayscale layer contents.

Grayscale sellected from mode window, refers to the whole document. It is different than having only a layer or two in B&W and everything else in color.

To switch to grayscale or any other color mode you can go to

image/mode/*Grayscale (RGB, CMYK...etc)

The Options bar is located right beneath the Menu bar (File, Edit, Image, etc.) and wil display different options depending on what tool you have selected.

Type Tool is how you type letters, numbers, symbols, etc into a Photoshop document.

Side note: Photoshop 7.0 is 11 years old.

Keep in mind that there are different types of Photoshop available. CS5 is the fancy, professional version. CS5 extended is the same, but with some 3D and motion capabilities. Lightroom seems to be for photo retouching and organization. Elements is a basic program. It is the one I have. As of version 6, it does not have animation, masking or vector-like line tools. It does however, have pretty much everything else and is extremely powerful.

You can buy these programs individually or bundled with other programs. You may also be able to get a discount if you are a student or teacher. Click around to see what the best deal for you is.

You will also have to download their install wizard. This means at least two downloads: one for the wizard and one for the program. Give yourself plenty of time.
