What is baby dumping?

Baby Dumping is a social crisis and it refers to mothers abandoning or discarding a child younger then 12 months in a public or private place with the intent to dispose of it. A lot of women resort to baby dumping as an option for giving birth to unwanted babies. The main reasons for baby dumping will be teenage pregnancies, poverty, and father's denying paternity.Pregnant teenagers experience problems during and after childbirth and often feel neglected and isolated, ashamed to go to school while pregnant or after giving birth, in most cases this leads to illegal abortions or baby dumping because they are not emotionally ready to be parents. Poverty is also another reason that leads to women neglecting and abandoning their babies. Poverty is the inability to satisfy one's basic needs because one lacks income to buy services or from lack of access to services. If mothers live in extreme poverty they think that they wont be able to provide for their child and support it so at times they resort to dumping their baby. Father's denying the paternity of the baby can have a very devastating affect on the mother. The fear of the mother is that of being unable to take care of the child alone, thus resulting to dumping the baby.

Is oxygen poisonous?

Scientist have found that when oxygen staved cells are rapidly delivered very high levels of oxygen it can kill them.

People suffering from severe lung/respiratory impairment can be harmed by even small increases in oxygen concentration (i.e. >21% oxygen that we normally breath in the air).

Why does burning petroleum pollute the environment?

Petroleum is a fossil fuel oil product. Burning it adds carbon dioxide, a powerful greenhouse gas, to the atmosphere. This is causing global warming.

People mine for and sell at high prices. We saw that with the rise and fall of the gas prices. It provides for gas for our cars and other uses of energy. It can be very harmful to the environment however.

It is also finite which means it's a non-renewable resource. That means we will run out of it sometime because it takes so long to replenish it.

Recently in government, an issue has been whether or not to drill for oil on a wildlife preserve in Alaska. The drilling of oil can pollute bodies of water and kill fish. It can effect entire food chains by just getting rid of one species.

However oil is very expensive and valuable. In the not-too-distant past countries tried to get a hold of oil-rich Kuwait. As I said before, Alaska also has oil. It's important though, that we don't rely on oil too much or we'll run out without a source to replace it.

Does oil pollute more when leaking in the ocean or when burned by combustion?

I don't know what causes more polution but leaking oil makes more damage to the enviroment.

What kind of pollution do factory waste and oil spills create?

I think you asked two questions:

What kind of pollution is created from factory waste?

What kind of pollution is created by an oil spill?

I will expand a bit on these questions and explain why most factories are careful not to pollute. Also, oil companies since the BP oil spill are trying not to have a similar accident.

Factories if they are not careful can discharge substances that pollute the air, water and earth. There are many chemicals and biological substances that can result from industries.

There are laws and inspections of factories to be sure that they are not causing pollution. There are Federal, State and local laws or regulations. Pollution may also be excessive noise or bad odor.

A Federal law or regulation sets an upper limit to an industry. For example, let us say that an environmental rule states that only 1 ton of sulfur may be emitted each year. A State may make it more difficult and say the limit is half a ton but could not make the limit easier and make it a 1.5 tons.

Businesses that do not abide by the law can be fined or shut down. If excessive pollution is occurring inside the factory, the owners can be fined and sued for health related problems. There can be criminal charges against the owners.

The pollutant created by an oil spill is mostly crude oil, but also includes natural gas. The burning of crude oil creates air pollution, that may contain harmful substances. In the case of the BP oil spill, the smoke from the burning oil did not cause any serious air pollution.

Now, an accidental oil spill is different from an intentional pollution by a factory, but it still results in environmental damage. In the case of the BP oil spill, 11 lives were lost and many people on board the rig were injured. The extent of damage was severe as oil appeared on beaches in four states, and shrimping was banned in large areas of the Gulf.

With the severe consequences of an accidental oil spill, oil companies are being more careful of the design of wells and drilling practices.

How Can Lichen Be Used As Pollution Indicators?

Lichen are a good pollution indicator because they get their water and minerals from rainwater and the atmosphere. This makest lichen extremely sensitive to the atmosphere. As a result very few lichen grow in or near large cities with heavy pollution.

What is the litteral zone?

What effects do humans and pollution have on trees?

Humans can actually help trees because we breathe out Carbon dioxide when trees take in but when we cut down trees then we kill it.

What will happen if white washed walls are polluted?

If whitewashed walls become polluted, they can appear dull, stained, or discolored, detracting from their aesthetic appeal. Pollutants, such as dirt, smoke, or mildew, can accumulate on the surface, making cleaning difficult and potentially leading to long-term damage. Additionally, persistent pollution may require repainting or restoration to restore their original brightness and cleanliness. Regular maintenance and cleaning can help mitigate these effects.

How does deforestation cause water pollution?

Deforestation causes water pollution because when there are no trees left to block the rain fall the rain falls directly on to the soil and washes it in to the rivers, which take it on to the seas and oceans. The soil may contain chemicals that pollute the water.
