Is the name Diana a popular name?
Yes, because it sounds so cool. The first thing that comes into your mind when hearing that name is diamonds and cutey.
Okay that's two things, but the the very fact that this name was first recorded at the very beginning of recorded history is an indication of it's great distinction and noble ancestry. Now, as a feminine given name, Diana derives from the Latin word meaning 'divine, pure'. In it's Spanish derivation, it means 'goddess'. From the Greek, it means 'divine queen'. Diana was the Roman Goddess of the hunt and moon and birthing.
According to the BabyNames website (listed below as a related link) the name is currently ranked (January, 2012) at Number 165 in US births. It's mostpopular year was 1957, when it was ranked at Number43.
How did the pilliga get a pilliga princess?
Th Princess was thought to have "lost it" in the city & just went bush . She , the
princess , reckoned her family , especially her two daughters just wanted her money.
Another theory - she worked on a property around Gunnedah , fell pregnant to the boss , hung around Boggabri for awhile . Had her baby taken off her , she snapped , went to & just wandered around the Pilliga . She did have a (base) camp about 40k in from the "T" at Coonabarrabran . She had the wildest head of white hair you could imagine (probably exacerbated by me , cause I've been bald since19) . She wandered up & down th Newell - Only as far nth as Narrabri , but south to West Wyalong . She had several friends with the Ipec drivers . Probably how she got most of her lifts . I met her once , I was having a sleep in my truck at the top of the hill , just up from the "T" nth of Coona , bang , bang on the door , give me a lift up to my camp , no , let me sleep . I want a lift up to my camp . I was awake by then . I had heard - the Princess used to come along to each truck , open the door , get in & make the driver tale her up to her camp . Only place I have ever locked my truck door while I slept . Cranked up the old girl , didn't stop till Goodiwindi . Funnily , I have slept in the middle of the Pilliga , knowing the "Legends , myths" of the Princess & Yowie , & never locked the doors there .
It is thought she ran out onto the road to get a lift , but misjudged how close the Stockmaster cattle truck was , as she ran across infront of a southbounder waving her arms for the northbounder . note- where her camp was - it was at the bottom of a hill at a creek - either way a Semi would be flat out , as to keep his revs up to get up the hill the other side . It IS Always very Dark at night in the Pilliga , I have found it only darker in most places in the Territory . So to see her at the last moment , one would have no chances of stopping . I suppose now , it adds to the Legend of the Pilliga Princess(bless her soul) . The ghost of the Pilliga Princess .
