I am a zoologist of 15yrs. The first yr was spent on the study of rodents. e.g. their behaviour growth and breeding pattens. We found the following statement on the 3rd doe which was quite small and obviously would not of been able to cope with a large litter all at once.

If the doe feels that there is not enough food for her or her brood or the litter will be too large for her to look after and protect all at once. She will melt half the litter into her insides and suspend their growth while the rest of the litter will grow normally and be delivered. When the doe feels that there is more food and the first half of her litter is doing well, she will allow the rest of the litter to continue to grow and give birth naturally. However this is not the case for every doe's.

If the population of rabbits increase will the population of snakes increase?

Nature is like a system in equilibrium. If a change in any component nature, quality or quantity is imposed on it, it will try to suppress that change and try to nullify it. So if the number of rabbits increase that change will be nullified by many factors other than predators. Diseases, shortage of food etc. can happen. Also, the increase in the number of rabbits will provide a good habitat for the snakes and thereby help in more breeding. But this will happen only up to a particular limit after which there will be no more change.

What age are rabbits when they are able to have babies?

Female rabbits can become pregnant as early as 4 months. This is not a good idea at all though.

If you are thinking of breeding your rabbit you should wait at least until she is a year old, and fully grown.

Female rabbits (does) can be bred when they are fully mature, usually 6 to 8 months. That is 18 in human years. Breeding a doe at 4 months could lead to fetal giantism and/ or death during kindling. Every rabbit should have it's own cage by age 8 to 10 weeks.

Is it bad to lift a pet rabbit up by its ears?

It depends on the rabbit. Some are quite comfortable sitting in your lap or very close to you. Other prefer to keep their distance. With time and patience you can teach your bunny that being held isn't a bad thing but you have to take it slow so you don't stress him/her out. I've had my rabbit for 5 years and she still will not sit in my lap but she will often sit next to me or under my chair/bed.

Also, most rabbits do not like being picked up and held while you're standing. When you do have to pick up your bunny make sure you always support it's hind legs and hold it tight against you so it can't jump out and hurt him/herself.

What do you feed a few weeks old bunny or it looks that old?

Do rabbits like to live alone or with other rabbits?

Rabbits are social animals: they enjoy company, and they benefit from living with other rabbits.

However, you can't just throw two or more rabbits together and expect them to get along. Rabbits might love or hate each other for individual reasons, just like humans. And if rabbits aren't spayed/neutered, they're very likely to either fight or breed.

Never let rabbits fight: not only can it lead to physical injury (even a small cut can turn into a big abscess, and a bad fight can be fatal), but fighting is emotionally damaging for rabbits (leading to behavioural problems down the road). Think long and hard before letting your rabbits breed: after all, there are many rabbits in shelters waiting to be adopted, and many of those shelters kill their rabbits if they aren't adopted in time, so does the world really need your rabbit to breed?

Before they can live together, rabbits must be "bonded," which means they love each other and can be trusted not to fight. The bonding process can take a long time and require a lot of patience. See the related question below for more details about bonding.

A rabbit doesn't need to live with other rabbits in order to be happy, but a single rabbit does need a lot of attention from it's human companions. Rabbits are social animals and they need social interaction every day.

Rabbits typically have litters of 4-12 offspring, known as kits. They can have up to 4-5 litters per year, depending on environmental factors and breeding conditions.
