What are the causes of ringworm?
Popping the red bumps in the middle of the ringworm and scratching the fungus makes the fungus spread. The absolute worst irritant is BLEACH!!!!!!!! Pure bleach will pop the bumps and make the infection spread all over your body!!!!! I had ringworm all over my body(tinea corporis) and on my scalp (tinea capitis) because of the bleach! I tried everything from anti-fungal creams and sprays, bleach, nail polish remover, clear nail polish, Diflucan, Keflex(Cephelexin), prescription lotions, garlic cloves, Gold Bond Medicated Powder, TIGER BALM (OOOOOUCH), Blue Star Ointment, DOG SHAMPOO, Selsun Blue as a lotion, and Band-Aid brand calamine spray with little to horrible results. This is what finally worked for me:
1.) Selsun Blue-everyday as a shampoo and a body soap (use hands no sponge or lufa). Let the shampoo sit in your hair for as long as possible. I will probably use it forever as I found it to make my skin extremely soft.
2.) Natural dead sea salt- after your shower soak in the bath for at least a half hour in the hottest water possible with about 5 cups of the dead sea salt. Use the salt as a paste on problem areas. Let it sit there as long as you can.
3.) Hydrogen Peroxide (by itself in a spray bottle) 6 parts water/ONE PART CLOROX bleach (by itself in a spray bottle) .Two Bottles total. Spray the bleach/water mixture over one part of your body (eg. right arm). Then within 10 to 15 seconds spray the area with the peroxide. The peroxide keeps you from getting chemical burns. then immediately rinse the area with COLD water as it prevents chemical burns. Once you have sprayed all areas, other than the scalp, spray your body one last time with the peroxide. Do not rinse any part of the body other than the palms of the hands after spraying peroxide second time. In fact, you may want to even use surgical gloves when using the peroxide as it will burn your fingertips if not rinsed.
4.) Blow Dryer-DO NOT USE A TOWEL!!!!!! Instead, dry your body and hair immediately after exiting the shower. Keep the dryer on infected areas until you feel pain. as soon as you feel pain, move to another area of the body. Drying the fungus with a towel spreads the infection, and it multiplies in damp warm places. Therefore, you must dry yourself and your hair completely. Attempt not to use a brush when drying hair. If you must, make sure and spray brush with bleach and rinse with HOT water after use. Let the brush dry for use the next day.
5.) CLOTRIMAZOLE ANDBETAMETHASONE DIPROPIONATE LOTION USP, 1%/0.05%(base)- you must have a prescription for this lotion, and it is for ages 17 and up, but IT IS THE MAIN TREATMENT that worked for me!!!! You only need to use a little bit. It is very concentrated. Follow written instructions given with the lotion.
6.) wash sheets, pillow cases and clothes everyday!!!!! ALL CLOTHES MUST BE WASHED!!!! Do not EVER wear the same thing twice! Bleach as many items as possible, and wash all clothes in HOT WATER! I dried each load of laundry for 3 hours a piece. Heat kills the fungus. Dryers will vary. Mine is older.
7.) Clean your home, and if possible, spray carpet with bleach/water mixture. If you cannot wash furniture covers, spray them with Lysol everyday.
8.) Wear long sleeve shirts, and pants. Make sure and wear socks and even shoes, if you can, all day. Make sure clothing is cool and loose.
9.) Dan Active- Drink one everyday for immune support. Dan-Active has a pro biotics which kills free radicals (ringworm)
10.) Activia Yogurt-one a day. Friendly bacteria which kills fungus
11.) Supplements 3 times a day as directions indicate on bottle- Selenium, Acidophilus, Fish Oil, Garlic oder-free,Echinacea , Golden Seal, Green Tea Extract. You can find all these supplements on the vitamin isle at WalMart.
12.) When you start itching really bad, you are healing. ATTEMPT NOT TO SCRATCH! Your skin will flake. Keep hands clean. If you touch something infected whether it be your body or clothing, spray hands with bleach/water mixture, then peroxide, and last rinse with cold water.
13.) Tanning bed!!!! You must take your own towel and bleach mixture to clean the bead and everything you touched YOURSELF! DO NOT BE LAME AND SPREAD IT TO OTHERS.!!!!
It took about 3 weeks for me to completely heal. Had I started the regiment I have given you, from day one, it probably would have been gone in 2 weeks, maybe less.
Good luck. Hang in there. It'll go away.
