What is the food that ringworms feed on?

ringworm isn't a worm, it is a fungi and so the "worm" does not eat anything (because there isn't actually a worm under the skin). However the fungi feeds on the dead skin cells on the outer layer of our skin. ringworm has the ability to digest keratin (that is the main chemical in our skin) and this is what it eats. it does this by doing extracellular digestion (this is where the digestion happens outside of the cells body i.e. on our skin and not in the cell)

How to get rid of ringworm on my 2 year old?

Ringworm is no joke! Get to a doctor and get a prescription for an antifungal. Be sure to get an antifungal shampoo . . . ringworm can result in spotty baldness if left untreated.

My favorite treatment is the prescription SelSun shampoo. It obviously treats the hair, but it is good as a dab-on ointment. BUT, do not mess around with regular off-the-shelf SelSun AND make sure the doctor says OK for use on a toddler. Selsun contains selenium, which can be poisonous. The doctor may prefer a drug that is safer for kiddies.

Is Fluticasone Propionate Topical ointment used to treat ringworm?

If you want to make it worst, then use it. Ringworm is a fungal infection. You'd need an anti-fungal to treat it. A topical steroid normally will make bacterial or fungal skin infections worst if you use it by itself. This is because steroid lower your immune response. Steroid is good for inflammation, which is an increased in immune response to something. It's possible to use both topical steroid and anti-fungal at the same time because some yeast skin infection can be very inflamed also.

What is the best cure for Ringworm?

The best cure for ringworm is Gris-Peg antifungal; Gris-PEG is prescribed for the treatment of the following ringworm infections: Athlete's foot, Barber's itch (inflammation of the facial hair follicles), Ringworm of the body, Ringworm of the groin and thigh, Ringworm of the nails, Ringworm of the scalp. Because Gris-PEG is effective only for certain types of fungal infections, before treatment your doctor may perform tests to identify the source of infection. Accurate diagnosis of the infecting organism is essential. Adults: Daily administration of 330 mg (as a single dose or in divided amounts) will give a satisfactory response. Children: Approximately 3.3 mg per pound of body weight per day is an effective dose for most children. Because Gris-PEG can make you sensitive to light, avoid exposure to intense natural or artificial sunlight. Notify your doctor if you develop lupus erythematosus(a form of rheumatism) or a lupus-like condition. Signs and symptoms of lupus include arthritis, red butterfly rash over the nose and cheeks, tiredness, weakness, sensitivity to sunlight, and skin eruptions. If you are being treated with Gris-PEG for an extended period of time, your doctorshould perform regular tests, including periodic monitoring of kidney function, liver function, and blood cell production. Gris-PEG has not been proved safe and effective for the prevention of fungal infections. Gris-PEG may decrease the effectiveness of birth-control pills. Use additional protection while you are taking Gris-PEG. Men should wait at least 6 months after finishing therapy with Gris-PEG before they father a child. Women should avoid becoming pregnant while they are taking the drug. Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the one you missed and go back to your regular schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once. When adverse reactions occur, they are most commonly of the hypersensitivity type such as skin rashes, urticaria, erythema multiform-like drug reactions, and rarely, angioneurotic edema, and may necessitate withdrawal of therapy and appropriate countermeasures. Paresthesias of the hands and feet have been reported rarely after extended therapy. Other side effects reported occasionally are oral thrush, nausea, vomiting, epigastria distress, diarrhea, headache, fatigue, dizziness, insomnia, mental confusion, and impairment of performance of routine activities. Administration of the drug should be discontinued if granulocytopeniaoccur. When rare, serious reactions occur with Gris-PEG, they are usually associated with high dosages, long periods of therapy, or both. Store Gris-PEG tablets at controlled room temperature 15°-30°C (59°-86°F) in tight, light-resistant containers. Any medication taken in excess can have dangerous consequences. If you suspect an overdose of Gris-PEG, seek emergency medical treatment immediately. Gris-PEG may intensify the effects of alcohol. If you drink alcohol while taking this medication, your heart may start beating faster and your skin may be flushed. If Gris-PEG is taken with certain other drugs, the effects could be increased, decreased, or altered. It is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Gris-PEG with the following: Blood-thinning drugs such as Coumadin, Barbiturates such as Phenobarbital, Oral Contraceptives. Yes. Ring worm infection can be cured very easily. You have to keep the area dry, specially the groin. You can apply the clotrimazole dusting powder there. You should take griseofulvin (Grisovin FP) one tablet twice a day for six to eight weeks. You will get the complete relief within two to three weeks. If you stop the treatment, ring worm infection will return. Another important thing is to is to immerse the cloth in very hot water like undergarments. Small children whose immune system is not fully developed, or an adult with a compromised immune system, are most vulnerable.

Ringworm is a fungal infection similar to athlete's foot. Pets are also vulnerable and transmit between humans and animals. All family members should be checked if one member gets it.

Humans with ringworm that is not infected (pus or open wound) and just the red spot can be treated with twice daily applications of plain old Lamisil or generic for two weeks.

It is critical to continue applying even after the spot is gone for the full two weeks, or it may return or continue infecting others. If the area is infected looking (pus, hot to touch, etc.) a doctor should be seen for antibiotic and to ensure tetanus shot is current, since ringworm is sometimes transmitted by damp soil or sandboxes where tetanus bacteria is common. How does ringworm start?

The chicken pox life cycle is as follows: the virus that is called virus varicella-zoster which is the host cell attaches itself to specific sites on the host cell. Then following the attachment, the viral nucleic acid is inserted through the plasma membrane and into the hosts cytoplasm. After it is inside the host cell, the viral nucleic acid changes the metabolism of the host so that new parts of the virus are formed. These viral components parade in the cell to form new viruses which burst from the host cell causing the disease, and the chicken pox life cycle then repeats itself. See the related link.

Does vinegar kill ringworm?

Ringworm is a fungal infection caused by several organisms...and there are different types of ringworm. Vinegar is not going to end the problem.

If you are wondering if you should launder clothes in vinegar that have been removed from a person...or bedding...bedding from animal..the answer is: it would be better to launder them in Clorox and very hot water.

As far as putting vinegar on the spots on the skin, no....you can get clotrimizole or other antifungals at your pharmacy over the counter...or the best thing to do would be to see a doctor or a Veterinarian as the management of ringworm requires that you be educated as to how to eliminate it from your environment. Ringworm has spores that are difficult to eliminate.

Knowing more of your circumstances would help answer the problem.
