Ritalin is a stimulant, however in some people it has what is called a paradoxical effect, i.e. the opposite effect. This may indicate that a dose adjustment is necessary.

If your son is doing great on Ritalin SR should he switch to Strattera if a new doctor wants him to?

my son was switched to straterra for its lesser effect on apetite suppression. within weeks he was moody and irritable. severe mood swings made us switch back to his adderal xr and i now live with the fact that he will eat early in the morning and late at night. as long as he's getting his calories in i will never switch to another medication. i also don't medicate him over weekends and school vacations my advice to you and your new doctor is not to switch especially if your son is doing well. if it's not broken, why fix it?
