What is the working envelope of a robot?

The working envelope of a robot is boundary of the space, or volume, in which the robot can perform its function. Different robot configurations generate characteristic working envelope shapes. This working envelope is important when selecting a robot for a particular application.

Several details should be borne in mind:

- The working envelope refers to the working volume which can be reached by some point at the end of the robot arm, this point is usually the centre of the end effector mounting plate. It excludes any tools or workpiece which the end effector may hold.

- There are often areas within the working envelope which cannot be reached by the end of the robot arm. Such areas are termed dead zones.

- The maximum quoted payload capacity can only be achieved at certain arm spans this may not necessarily be at maximum reach.

There are several standard shapes for the working envelope:

Cartesian Configuration: a rectangular prism. There are no dead zones within the working envelope and the robot can manipulate its maximum payload throughout the working volume.

Cylindrical Configuration: a cylinder. The cylinder is hollow, since there is a limit to how far the arm can retract, this creates a cylindrical dead zone around the robot structure.

Polar Configuration: the volume between two partial spheres. Physical limits are imposed by the design on the amount of angular movement in both the vertical and horizontal planes. These restrictions create conical dead zones both above and below the robot structure.

Revolute Configuration: almost a true sphere, or a complex cusp shape. The shape depends on the individual design. The working envelope is large relative to the floor space occupied.

SCARA Configuration: a heart- or kidney-shaped prism, having a circular hole passing through the middle. This allow a large coverage in the horizontal plane but relatively little in the vertical plane.

Spine Configuration: approximately a true hemisphere, the size being dependent on the number of articulations in the spine.

Pendulum Configuration: a simple horseshoe having a segmented shaped cross section. The limited working envelope is offset by the fact that this robot can be mounted in almost any position, allowing the envelope to be finely positioned in relation to its task.

What three countries produce the most robots?

The three countries that produce the most robots are Japan, South Korea, and China. Japan is renowned for its advanced robotics technology, particularly in manufacturing and service sectors. South Korea has a strong focus on automation in industries such as electronics and automotive. China is rapidly increasing its production of robots, driven by its growing manufacturing sector and investment in automation technologies.

How many joints does a robot have?

It depends on what kind of robot you are talking about.

What are the three basic components of robot?

Almost anything that would be considered a robot has the following basic elements:

  • A moveable body -- Robots may have wheels, limbs connected by mechanical joints, or other types of moveable segments.
  • An actuator -- In order to be activated, robots may use an electric motor, a hydraulic system, a pneumatic system or a combination of all three.
  • A power source -- A robot needs a power source to drive its actuators. Electric robots use batteries or extension cord. Hydraulic robots need pumps to pressurize the hydraulic fluid, and pneumatic robots need air compressors.
  • An electrical circuit -- The electrical circuit powers the electric motor, solenoid or valves that control hydraulic or pneumatic systems.
  • A reprogrammable brain (computer) -- The computer controls all other components. In order to change the robot's behavior, you just have to reprogram the computer.
  • A sensory system -- Some robots have the ability to collect information about their environment and react to it.

What kinds of sensors are used to make sure the robot moves right?

Robots typically use a combination of sensors to move accurately, including wheel encoders for measuring distance traveled, gyroscopes for orientation, accelerometers for detecting changes in speed, and proximity sensors for obstacle detection. These sensors work together to provide real-time feedback to the robot's control system, ensuring it moves correctly.

What can robots do that humans can not?

Perform the same act precisely over and over without rest.

Do you consider a crane as a robot?

If it only works with an operator, no.

What can humans do that robots can't?

Robots are able to perform repetitive tasks with great accuracy ati high speeds for extended periods of time without needing any maintenance or down time.

What is the purpose of the robot mice in there will come soft rains?

In Ray Bradbury's "There Will Come Soft Rains," the robot mice serve as a symbol of automation and the remnants of human technology in a post-apocalyptic world. Their primary purpose is to maintain the home by cleaning and performing household tasks, reflecting the story's theme of the emptiness of human achievements in the absence of humans. They emphasize the contrast between the advanced technology that once served people and the desolation that remains after humanity's destruction.

Where can one find instructions on how to build your own robot?

A good place to find instructions on building your own robot would be in the book 'Robot Building For Dummies'. The book offers a step by step guide to building robots and was written by Roger Arrick and Nancy Stevenson and published in 2003.

Where are the headquarters of Byrne Robotics?

Byrne Robotics is the official website of John Byrne. It is a site dedicated to comic books and fan fiction about them. As such it does not have an actual headquarters building because it is all online.

What boat travels over water on a cushion of air?

That would be a hovercraft. However, hovercraft are not really boats and can travel on both land and water.

Where can one purchase a robotic kit?

Robotics kits can be purchased from local electronics stores. Some other places to purchase robotics kits include Amazon, Toys 'R' Us, Walmart, Best Buy, eBay, RobotShop, and many others.

Where can you find information on how to make a robot?

There are many websites that provide users with information on how to make a home made robot. Let's Make Robots's website provides users with step-by-step instructions on how to build a robot.

What company made the Fanuc Robot?

The company that made the Fanuc Robot is called FANUC Robotics. The company is located in Europe. One can learn more about this company on their official website.

Why do humans need robots?

Doing repetitive work can cause many mistakes. Using robots reduces that.

Should people be afraid of robots?

People shouldn't inherently be afraid of robots, as they are tools designed to assist and enhance human capabilities. However, concerns about job displacement, privacy, and ethical implications of AI are valid and warrant careful consideration. The key lies in responsible development and regulation to ensure that robots are used safely and beneficially. Open dialogue about these issues can help alleviate fears and foster a positive relationship with technology.

Who was the robot in Lost in Space?

The robot in Lost In Space was voiced by Dick Tufeld, who was also the series narrator. The individual who performed the robot was Bob May, which was designed by Robert Kinoshita.

What is the brain of the robot?

The brain of a robot is typically its central processing unit (CPU) or a specialized processing unit, such as a microcontroller or field-programmable gate array (FPGA). This "brain" processes information from sensors, executes algorithms for decision-making, and controls the robot's movements and actions. Additionally, advanced robots may employ artificial intelligence (AI) systems to enhance learning and adaptability, allowing them to respond effectively to their environments.

What are robots doing nowadays?

Mainly working in production industries.

What does the Paro Therapeutic Robot do?

The Paro Therapeutic Robot helps to provide animal therapy in hospitals as well as in extended care facilities. The Paro Therapeutic Robot is known to help with reducing stress in patients as well as improving socialization.

Who scientist invented the robot?

The concept of the robot was notably popularized by Czech writer Karel Čapek in his 1920 play "R.U.R. (Rossum's Universal Robots)," where the term "robot" was first used. However, the development of actual robots involved contributions from various scientists and engineers over the years. Notably, George Devol created the first industrial robot, Unimate, in the 1950s, which laid the groundwork for modern robotics.
