How long does it take for abscess swelling to go down?
Actually, an abscess is a tricky thing. Most dentists and doctors won't do anything about it if you go to a hospital. Abscess can take up to three weeks on average to go down, however, you can easily speed this up by gargling with salt and water or if its extremely painful, gargle with saltwater, rinse, and place a crushed Tylenol tablet on the abscess. It's not the greatest tasting but it will help the pain a lot more than swallowing the pill, oh and try not to drink anything except water until it subsides.
i'd love to see an xray to verify that the bone has filled in where you originally had the abscess. most dentists will NOT agree with me, but the truth is you don't have to do anything other than crown the tooth (i'd do a 3/4 crown). the dentists are trained to tell you that the tooth needs a medicated filling to facilitate healing. providing your dentist did all that they could to the very best of their ability, it is now up to your body to take care of any residual infection. a FANTASTIC question!
Abcess, where bacteria has set up an infection at the end of the tooth's root.
Might be a gum infection.
Either way, get to a dentist. Any infection should be treated, especially one in the head region.
Can you fly the day after having root canal treatment?
I was told by my Destist (endodontist) if the tooth that the root canal was done on was built up properly there should be no problem flying, my endodontist knew I was flying on a plane the next day I heard her say "were going to go ahead and put on a permanent filling" but she told be to get a crown done within 2-3 weeks.
What shouldn't a dental assistant do during a biopsy?
Basically a dental assistant will only do what the dentist directs him/her to do during the procedure. Which may involve passing instruments, suction, dabbing the area, or even possibly taking the speciman and preserving it correctly. Every state is different in regards to what functions a dental assistant may perform.
Can you get dry socket from a root canal?
No. By definition, a 'dry socket' is a painful condition that occurs following a tooth extraction, not a root canal.
That is not to say that you cannot have pain following a root canal. You can, particularly if the tooth was acutely infected at the time of the root canal, or if the root canal is incomplete. You should consult with the dentist who performed the procedure and follow his/her recommendations.
Is there anything a person can do besides pulling the tooth if you have a broken root for the tooth?
Yes, depends how badly it's broken and how much money you want to spend.
What do you need for a root canal therapy?
In my experience, I have had three root canal fillings. None were successful. I was warned about this from friends who have had this procedure done.
Some have suggested that a 'crown' would help. That has not been my finding. Again, that is IMO and my experiences.
Were I you, I would have the tooth removed and consider an implant. Yes, they're costly, but succeed IMO far better than a root canal.
It was also my finding that a root canal made my tooth very susceptible to breakage, damage, etc., in that root canal fillings are a delicate and less than a desirable way to "keep" your tooth.
It's your call --- and be sure to address your dentist with your concerns about the "success" of root canal fillings. IF he or she is honest (and not just looking for more money to charge you) --- then you may well consider an implant. A root canal may well cost as much as an implant --- which is far superior.

Why do you have to wait before smoking cigarettes following root canal?

Yes, with a dental implant. You also have the choice of a bridge (if you knocked out tooth is not a terminal tooth) or a partial.
Can a dental problem cause a sinus problem?
Yes as it's all connected but its rare and you would have to have something serious or infectious for it to travel that far. Often the bacteria that cause bad breath and ulcers, can travel into the nasal passage causin irritation and kill the sinus hairs, meaning you have no sense of smell - similar to when you get a cold

Is it normal for a tooth to be sensitive to sugar after your root canal.?
I have wondered this too. I had a root canal over a year ago with 2 crowns (first one supposedly didn't fit well). I have continued to have significant pain although the dentist tells me everything looks good and there is no infection. Several days ago, I significantly cut back on sugar for another reason and the tooth pain has decreased incredibly. I am wondering if there is something within the gums or roots? that continue to be affected by sugar.

What is the difference between normal tooth cavity filling and root canal treatment?
A filling is a way to restore or repair a tooth that has been damaged by decay or a fracture that has not reached the pulp chamber of the tooth. If the damage has reached the pulp chamber (the interior of the tooth where the nerve and blood supply are located) a root canal procedure needs to be done.
In a simple filling, the decayed part of the tooth is removed and the space is filled and carved to resemble the natural shape of the tooth. In a root canal procedure, the decay is removed along with the nerve and the blood supply. The space is filled with a rubber material called gutta percha. Following a root canal, the tooth frequently needs to be restored with a crown because the tooth will become brittle and at risk of fracturing.
A root canal is more involved than a filling and generally will cost more and sometimes take more than one appointment to complete.
Can you go to the er for a root canal?
No. The ER will only give you a prescription for an antibiotic or extract the tooth. Root canals are time-consuming elective procedures that are not appropriate for the ER setting. Besides that, most ER physicians are not trained in root canal procedures, and the ER is not equipped to perform root canals. You need to go to a dentist office.
