My dentist took xrays but nothing showed up so do I need a root canal?

If your dentist took X-rays and found no issues, a root canal may not be necessary. However, if you're experiencing persistent pain or other symptoms, it's important to discuss these with your dentist, as some issues may not be visible on X-rays. Your dentist may recommend further evaluation or alternative treatments based on your symptoms. Always follow their advice for the best course of action.

What does an absessed tooth look like?

An abscessed tooth typically appears swollen and may have redness around the gum line. The affected area may exhibit a noticeable bump or pus-filled pocket, and the tooth itself might appear discolored or darkened. Patients often experience pain, sensitivity, or swelling in the surrounding gums, and there may be a foul taste or odor if pus drains from the abscess. Overall, the tooth's appearance can vary, but these signs indicate infection and require prompt dental attention.

Can a tooth with a vertical fracture be saved?

A tooth with a vertical fracture may sometimes be saved, depending on the extent and location of the fracture. If the fracture does not extend below the gum line and the tooth's pulp is not affected, treatment options like a crown or root canal may be viable. However, if the fracture compromises the tooth's stability or involves the root, extraction may be necessary. Consulting a dentist is essential for an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan.

Can root canal treated be sensitive to heat and cold?

Yes, a tooth that has undergone root canal treatment can sometimes remain sensitive to heat and cold, especially if the tooth was still healing or if there are underlying issues, such as infection or inflammation. While the procedure typically alleviates pain, some patients may experience temporary sensitivity as part of the healing process. If the sensitivity persists or worsens, it's important to consult a dentist to rule out any complications.

Why hydrogen peroxide is not used at last as an irrigation for root canal treatment?

Hydrogen peroxide is not commonly used as an irrigant for root canal treatment due to its potential to cause tissue irritation and cytotoxicity. While it has antibacterial properties, its effervescence can lead to gas formation, which may create pressure and discomfort in the canal. Additionally, hydrogen peroxide can break down organic tissue, which complicates effective cleaning and disinfection of the root canal system. Therefore, safer and more effective alternatives, such as sodium hypochlorite, are preferred.

You are currently taking antibiotics for a painful tooth that needs a root canal how long can you wait to get one?

As long as you can stand the pain without yanking the tooth out yourself! If you are taking antibiotics, the dentist probably wants some infection to be cleared up before he does the root canal therapy. He can also prescribe medication for the pain if he thinks you need it. My dentist always gives me a prescription for pain pills AFTER he drills. The one time I really needed it BEFORE, I used ambesol for several days. The next time I have pain while waiting for a procedure, I'm going to ask for the lortabs or tylenol+ because the ambesol left the tip of my chin numb for several weeks after i quit using it.

How long can a root canal treatment temporary filling last?

about 1 or 2 months.... sometimes more, but I would not risk it... mine fell out after 2.5 months out.... From my own personal experience: If you live in the U.S but received the treatment in Europe it may depend. I had to get one in Paris four years ago while backpacking; before and after the procedure the dental assistant persistently reminded me that it was only temporary and I had to get it replaced as soon as I got back to the States (probably five times so I took it seriously). About a month after the procedure I returned to the U.S. I had an appointment with my personal dentist who informed me that everything looked fine, but still referred me to an Endodontist (root canal specialist). The Endodontist told me everything looked great, it was exactly what he would have done. I would assume the quality standards vary depending on the country (or EU standards no clue). Sorry for the length but I felt a background on the situation was necessary.

Why must they still use silver crowns on a child age 6rather than white ones for a baby root canal Is there really no other alternative Kids are so cruel during the childhood years....?

I think this a really good question, recently my 6 year old, visited the densist and he must have a silver crown ,on a tooth that will be visible when smiling. I asked the doctor about porcelain, the densist said that they only did silver on children with no explanation. So later in the day, my son said that he didn't want a silver tooth because that meant he had ate too much sugar and didn't brush his teeth. I thought that it was so sad my 6 year felt like this. I will more than likely check around for a densist in which would consider porcelain

Can root canal treatment treat bone loss?

Root canal treatment primarily addresses infected or damaged pulp tissue within a tooth, rather than directly treating bone loss. However, by eliminating the infection, it can help prevent further deterioration of the surrounding bone and promote healing. If bone loss has occurred due to infection, additional treatments like bone grafting may be necessary to restore the bone structure. Always consult a dental professional for a comprehensive treatment plan.

What may happen if root canal is not done - although it was advised by your dentist?

Best case scenario, the tooth will die, medium case, you will develop a very painful abscess and wish that you had taken the dentists advice in the first place. Worst case, the abscess infection will spread to the rest of your body and either make you very ill or in some cases has actually caused death.

Your root canal filling fell out and it looked like a piece of drill in it?

More than likely what you see is something called a post. It was placed at the completion of the root canal to stabilize the filling.
