Why does a molar tooth still hurt two months after a root canal and could the nerve still be in the tooth?

Weird, I had this same problem recently. I had a root canal down and a few months later my tooth started hurting again. I was now going to a different dentist and he took out the filling and the previous dentist didn't fill my tooth right and my nerves were swollen so they had to cut the nerves and do a new root canal with a new filling. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon. It is unusual that a tooth would hurt two months after a root canal, although it is not impossible. It might be that the restaurantion done on the tooth is too high, not letting the tooth heal correctly. There are always chances that there was an extra canal that wasn't seen by the operator. You can talk to your dentist about that possibility. He might suggest to wait 6 months.

Can a root canal cause slight loss of sensation in the face and extremeties as well as pain in the tooth and dripping after urination?

I'm assuming you're not kidding here. You have me wondering what the heck they did to you during the root canal. A root canal may affect the nerves in your mouth and face but that should only be temporary. Any other bodily symptoms you have are most likely related to something else. ~ T

Should you use an antibiotic to get rid of bad taste in your mouth due to failed root canal?

Since a failed root canal may result in an infection, you should consult your dentist rather than trying to diagnose and treat yourself. Even if you do need an antibiotic, it matters which antibiotic you use, and some are available only by prescription. Furthermore, the failed root canal should be repaired.

How long does it take before you need a root canal?

One endotontist told me to hurry up before it got pus in it and the other told me to leave it alone and see if it settled down after the crown procedure. Quack!

It depends on the situation, sometimes if you already have an acute infection the dentist may give you some antibiotics to start reducing the infection before having the root canal done. Partially this is done because it is pus can interfere with the anesthetic making it harder to get the area numb. Other dentists will open the canal and allow the pus to drain out of the center of the tooth, this relieves the pressure and pain. If you don't have an acute infection then it is best to get it done a.s.a.p. before one occurs, the longer you let things go the worse the prognosis is for the tooth to be retained long term. -RDH

Root canal has to be performed if the dental nerve has died and/or is infected. You may have no pain but still need a root canal treatment. Most common reasons for root canal treatment are bad caries and tooth abrasion at the dentist.

If you just had a post and core done how long can you actually wait before having the crown done?

It's usually called a root canal and the post is to strengthen the tooth. The posts are usually used on eye teeth if the person has to wear partials. Once you have the root canal done (or post and core) the dentist will give it a little time to heal (the nerve is taken out and the canal rinsed out well) and wait for things to settle down and be sure you don't have any infection in this area. Your dentist should be able to complete this in 5 - 10 days depending on how busy he is.

My child is 7 years old has cavity in molar does she need a root canal?

Not likely, most dentists will just do a standard fill in with some kind of epoxy. STOP GIVING YOUR KID SUGARY FOODS! It contributes to some serious diseases like diabetes, and is a root cause of poor health in general.

-If the cavity has gotten into the nerve of the tooth then they do what is called a pulpotomy or a pulpectomy which is similar to an adult root canal only much simpler. If the cavity is small then they can fix it with a filling or sometimes a stainless steel crown since the tooth needs to last until she is 12-13 yrs old. Please be sure that you supervise tooth brushing and you can get "disclosing tablets" from a drug store or your dentist. Have her chew them, then brush until ALL of the color is gone. This will help improve plaque removal. Oh, and cut back on the soda, juice (even 100% real juice), and sticky sugary snacks.

Should I get my small cavity drilled without or with Novocain?

It depends on your tolerance to pain. Even if your cavity is small, if the drill or polisher gets near the nerve, its going to send shocking pain. I had a very deep cavity that I had filled and had mistakenly taken quite a bit of Vitamin C before the procedure. Vitamin C will prevent Novocaine from working. It was very painful, but at my threshold.

On the other hand, Novocaine is pretty shocking to the body and to the immune system itself. If you're thinking of forgoing it for health reasons, and the cavity is small, it might be worth it to give it a try. You can always ask for Novocaine halfway through if you need it.

What should you do if you have chronic head pressure that comes and goes and sometimes stabbing headaches for the last year and a half after you had a root canal?

Headaches and head pressure are a real 'pain' to contend with especially when it keeps reoccurring. And, headache as a symptom is not easy to track down because it can have many causes, including:

  • sinusitis or sinus pain - especially if the tooth's roots are close to or in the sinus cavity
  • teeth, infected tooth, impacted tooth, or tooth abscess
  • neck or shoulder problem
  • or allergy

Since it has been a year and a half, I'd start with your family doctor. He/she can try to rule out the different possibilities and try to narrow it down.

You should also visit a dentist to rule out an actual tooth problem, if a problem exists. Ask them to do an X-ray of the root-canal. On a root canal I had done, the old type of posts used were pressing on a nerve. For mine, the tooth finally split in half (front came off) and the pain went away... of course, I lost that tooth, though.

I doubt a dentist or Dr would give you an antibiotic because it's been so long since the procedure. But do ask your GP to check your sinuses and ENT (ears, nose, throat).

How do you keep an infection out the mouth after a root canal and or crown lengthening has been done?

I would assume antibiotics.

After you take antibiotics, though, it is important to take some form of a probiotic to put the 'good bacteria' back up where it needs to be since antibiotics wipe out harmful and helpful bacteria.

Can you become deaf from a root canal is there a nerve from your ear to you teeth?

The answer is yes. There are two very important neves that run alongside the "Venus Mask" --- the parietal nerve and the oral-maxillofacial neve. That is why, before you have a wisdom tooth pulled, you're required to sign papers that warn you of the possibilities of damage to (either) nerve, including nerve damage to the ear. The same holds true if you undergo a "Typoid Mastectomy Revision" (a Cholestiatoma) in (either) ear.

What I said does not necessarlly hold true for a "simple" procedure such as a root-canal procedure. However, I've been warned by those who have had root canal fillings, that (this) will weaken your teeth and can be easily broken or dislodged.

I find that to be true. I've had 4 root canal procedures, and yes, I've lost all of (the teeth, due to weakening). I would never, IMO, suggest that (anyone) have a root canal filling. I've seen the results --- and, now I'm facing implants.
