Can a police officer force a runaway to go home in Washington state if the runaway is found on the street?

If you are underage the police have the responsibility to take you home. The streets aren't a safe place for anyone never mind an underage person. You may think you have all the answers, but you don't have street smarts. Either try to come to some understanding with one parent or both and if this is not possible try and see if you can move in with grandparents or a relative. If you just like the idea of being free with no rules and regulations I suggest you take a good hard look at yourself and realize you are in very great danger when you are out on those streets. Cities chew people up at any age!

Good luck Marcy

AnswerAn officer can bring you home if you are found on the streets but they can't force you to stay there! and if you are found and you run they aren't going to chase after you now if you are homeless and a runaway then, my advice is call a place like youth care, or the cocoon house so you unleast don't have to worry about your safety AnswerIf you are found on the street by the police they do have he obligation to take you home but if it becomes an occurring problem they start to leave you alone. They only take you home if they know that it is good. When they know that the environment is bad they just brush it off their shoulders. And they cant make you stay so think about it and do what you think is best.... Straight from a pro.. Ashley

Many States and territories now provide definitions for child abandonment in their reporting laws. Approximately 18 States and the District of Columbia include abandonment in their definition of abuse or neglect. These are Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wyoming.

Approximately 13 States, Arizona, Arkansas, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Maine, Montana, New Hampshire, New Mexico, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, and South Carolina, plus Guam, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands provide separate definitions for establishing abandonment.

In general, it is considered abandonment of the child when the parent's identity or whereabouts are unknown, the child has been left by the parent in circumstances in which the child suffers serious harm, or the parent has failed to maintain contact with the child or to provide reasonable support for a specified period of time.

Can a foster child in Georgia run away and get married and not get in trouble with the law?

I think most foster children are considered to be in custody of the state. What you might want to do is if you want to get married that badly call your local Children and Youth Services, it might even be called Children and Family services. If you are underage and run away I think you could get in some trouble. If the other person is over 18 they definitely could get in trouble. Make the call before you do something drastic.

What are the steps to take when your teen runs away from home in Missouri?

If your teen runs away from home in Missouri, first ensure their safety by contacting local law enforcement to report them as a missing person. Provide authorities with as much information as possible, including their last known whereabouts and any potential places they might go. Reach out to family and friends for support and to check if your teen may be staying with them. Additionally, consider contacting local youth shelters or crisis centers for resources and assistance.

Can a parent physically take a 17 year old child back home if they have run away in North Carolina?

  • If the courts gave custody or partial custody to a parent then the 17 year old is still a minor (no longer a minor at 18) and can physically take them back home. If you just don't feel you are getting your way with one parent and there are too many rules of the house then get use to it because you should be more responsible. If you are physically or constantly verbally abused then you can report it to Child Aid.

What happens if your 15 yr old runaway shows up at your house but you are not the custodial parent?

You have to take her back or call the other parent to come and get her. It's illegal to harbor a runaway and you don't want to end up in prison. After she is returned you can go for custody if that is what you want. Permanent or temporary.

What if a child is a runaway and refuses to live with the parents at age 17?

The police have the right to track you down, take you into custody and take you home. You're parents will be so worried about you and no one will trust you. If you are talking about yourself you should go straight home until you are 18. You must live with an adult until then and the police have no reason to worry for you when are an 'adult'.

There are several alternatives:

file a petition in court to get them legally "emancipated"

request the appointment of a legal guardian other than the parent

spend the intervening year in the custody of the state - juvenile detention or a foster home (if they will take them)

Can your mom report you as a runaway if she kicked you out and you are 17 about to be 18 in three month's if she does can the cops take you back to her since you are about to be 18?

You are not 18 yet and until then she can report you as a runaway.

Added: However, if she kicked you out of the house while you were a minor, she probably committed other crimes (varies by state) and will likely invite state intervention as well.

Are there any resources for teenage runaways that will not forcibly return them to abusive home?

Interesting question...your question assumes that the runaway is from an abusive home. Please first investigate this carefully. I am the mother of a Bipolar daughter who is a habitual runaway and will tell any kind of lie to stay out on her own. I know many kids come from abusive backgrounds, but many are also mentally ill and have families that love them.

Please consider this for your situation.

God Bless!

Do you need to file a runaway report on your 17 yr old daughter who did not come home from school in South Carolina?

If you'd like her back, you should file either a runaway or missing person's report.

If you have given permission or her to stay elsewhere or you don't really care what happens to her, you could just not bother.

Added: You may also want to take into consideration just how close she is to her 18th birthday. 18 is the age of majority in SC, and after she turns 18 she can, legally speaking, live anywhere she wants.

Can your child be labeled a runaway if they do not tell you where they are going?

  • A child becomes a runaway when they are missing for over 24 hours. However, if you go to Child Aid and request some help to control your child it would be best for you and your child. There are several good programs children can get into and your child needs some guidance before they get into trouble.

Can a seven-teen year old Michigan runaway be forced to come back home?

Yes, but only if they are found. If they are at least 17 and a half and in a safe place with relatives, it is unlikely that much effort will be put into it by the authorities. Their is an unwritten code that the juvenile authorities will not punish a 17 year old because they will soon be 18.

Also the child can legally emancipate themselves or divorce the parents easily at this age. It is usually worse to force them back home unless they are in danger. nah fam as long as they a tru cuh they do wat dey wat cuh get cuhed

Can a 15 year old runaway from home in Brownsville?

Yes, a 15-year-old can technically run away from home in Brownsville, Texas, but it's important to consider the legal implications and potential risks involved. In Texas, minors are considered runaways if they leave home without parental consent, and law enforcement can be involved if parents report them missing. Additionally, running away can expose them to dangerous situations, and it's often advisable to seek help from trusted adults or organizations rather than fleeing.
