Saint Patrick was put in jail for his Christian beliefs and missionary activities. He was captured by Irish raiders and held captive for six years before escaping and returning to his home in Britain.

He placed a ban on all marriage within Rome. His basic thought process was that men would pay more attention and have more devotion to his army if they did not have the worry of a family back home.

However, this ban did not last long being Claudius was only Emperor for two years before dying of a plague.

This story is also the basis for the story of St. Valentine and why he is celebrated..

Saint Valentine was a priest in Rome in the mid-3rd century (back when Christianity was still illegal in the Roman empire). He was caught marrying Christian couples and aiding Christians being persecuted under Emperor Claudius II.

Nobody knows. We don't even know who Valentinus really was or where he lived. The popular legends about him all started well (like, a thousand years) after his death and appear to be almost entirely fictional. The pope who established his feast day (about a hundred years after his death) said only that his name was "justly reverenced among men" but that his "acts were known only to God"... in other words, even HE didn't know exactly what Valentinus had done, just that he was a martyr for Christ.

Yes, there are historical accounts suggesting that Saint Nicholas was imprisoned for his Christian beliefs during the Roman Empire under Emperor Diocletian's persecution of Christians. After his release, he continued to practice and spread his faith.

As of my knowledge cutoff date in 2021, Bartolomé de las Casas has not been officially canonized as a saint by the Catholic Church. While he is recognized for his advocacy for indigenous peoples and his efforts to improve their treatment during the Spanish conquest of the Americas, he does not have the title of saint.

Saint Ivo of Kermartin is often considered the patron saint of judges because of his reputation for justice and fairness in settling disputes. He is also known as the patron saint of lawyers, abandoned children, and Brittany in France.

St. Lawrence, deacon and martyr, worked with Pope Sixtus II. When Sixtus and six other deacons were martyred, Lawrence was left alone as head of the church. He knew that he would soon be martyred so did everything to disperse any properties of the church so that the Roman government could not confiscate it. When he was told by the Romans to bring in all the Church's wealth, he gathered together all the poor, sick and blind he could find and took them to the judge where he announced that "these are the wealth of the Church." He was thrown into prison and then killed by roasting him on a grill. While dying it is reported that he told the executioner to "turn me over. I'm done on this side."
