No stone is bad to wear even if it is not the June birthstone. They also say that you shouldn't wear Opal if its not your birthstone, its all a bunch of mumbo jumbo.

Plus if I had a rare stone like the Black sapphire I would wear it all the time.

They are both avilible in the Slateport Sale southern of Slateport after freeing Kyogre in the Sea Floor Cavern.Also the type of the move is NOT normal always the type depends on your EVs so your hidden power could be any type in the game.
