Where to find vacuum hose leak on a 1998 Saturn sl?

If you suspect a certain area, try short bursts from a can of starting fluid with the engine running. Listen to the engine sounds; it will change speed and can sound just a little different when it sucks a little starting fluid.

If it's a large leak, check the big hose from the base of the throttle body to the power brake diaphragm. Understand too that a 15 year old power brake diaphragm can develop cracks and if that happens, it will leak.

It's difficult to tell you step-by-step instructions on how to find a vacuum leak; troubleshooting is a process that takes a while to master.

Sometimes you can disconnect a vacuum line and cap it to see if it makes any difference. There are quite a few options when tracking down problems, but you need to know which option to use in which situation.

Why does your engine click when trying to start on your 1999 Saturn?

That's usually a low battery or a dirty battery terminal. Check the terminal first, see if it's corroded or loose.

Next, understand that the battery is simply an electrical storage device. The battery can be bad or the alternator can fail and the battery will not have enough stored electrical energy. Before just replacing a battery, always check the charging system to make sure it's working properly before assuming that a battery has failed.

What does the Saturn logo stand for?

It is a stylized representation of the planet Saturn. The curve from the top middle is the profile of the planet. The curve from the bottom left to the top right represents the rings (the rings show behind the planet as if it was transparent).

How do you replace the wiper motor on a 1998 Saturn sw2?

You must remove the dash cover. Begin by removing the caps on the top of the dash and the 7 MM screws. Pop the dash cover off (careful not to break your clips) using a screwdriver. Remove the two 7 MM screws holding the defroster duct to the chassis. Carefully reach in and pull the clips to remove the duct. There are sharp edges, so be careful and use gloves if possible.

Remove the foam padding, and you will see the rubberized coating has a cutout above the sterring wheel against the firewall... Pull that back and remove the two nuts that secure the motor.

Remove the windshield wiper arms by removing the single bolt at the base of each. If this have never been replaced, you may need to work a little to get them loose.

Outside of the vehicle, remove the shroud over the wiper components by removing the 4 push-in fasteners and 4 star screws in the shroud. You will also need to remove your radio antenna.

Pop this up and disconnect your washer line.

Remove the two bolts holding the linkage assembly. The removal of the entire assembly is a tight fit and may require some finesse to get out. Pull the clip connecting the wire harness when you have it nearly out and remove completely.

Once unbolted and remove, unbold the old motor. RECOMMENDATION: Plug the new motor in before assembling and allow it to run and then park by switching the wipers on, then off.

Bolt the motor back on and reconnect the armature so that the linkage arms are in the farthest LEFT position (as you are facing to put it back in...) that will still allow you to get your socket on the armature bolt. This will insure that your wipers will park in the down position and save you the work of having to take apart again.

Personally, I take some lithium grease and lubricate the linkages.

Getting the assembly back in can be an even tighter fit than getting it out. Some people will gently turn the linkage to a right angle to make easy to get in... however you do run the risk of stripping the gears. I would recommend not doing this unless you absolutely must.

Place the assembly back in and reconnect the wiring harness.

Bolt everything back in, and I recommend you test before you reassemble shroud and dash.

Turn on wipers, then off, and then reconnect the wiper arms in the lowest (parked) position.

After testing the assembly, and making sure the wipers park in the proper position, reassemble shroud (don't forget to reconnect washer line), antenna, and then dash.

You're done.

Is Saturn Still Manufacturing?

No, General Motors terminated the Saturn project as a part of the restructuring when they were in financial trouble.

Some have suggested that shutting down Saturn was an attempt to appease the unions since Saturn was arguably the most successful GM division. Others have pointed out that Saturn was always an experiment, and as such, GM has learned quite a bit that they will now incorporate into the rest of their GM automotive line.

What is the torque for a 1.9 Saturn engine piston rod?

I believe these are torque to yield bolts and the specs are:

Initial torque to 19 Ft/Lbs

Tighten an additional 75 degrees

It's also not a good idea to reuse these bolts as they are stretched when tightened.

2000 Saturn windshield wiper fluid not coming out is there a fuse?

A couple things to check. If you don't hear the washer fluid motor running when you try to spray washer fluid, it may be a fuse or relay or bad washer fluid motor. If you do hear the washer fluid motor running while trying to spray the windshield, but aren't getting any fluid, then there is a blockage or kink in the line. If this is the case, you can unhook the hose at the sprayers underneath on the hood/cowl and blow back through the line to see. It should blow air right back into the washer reservoir. If not, then check the lines for blocks/kinks.

Why your front floor is wet in your Saturn when it rain?

Perhaps there is a leak in one of the windows or sunroof; or perhaps from the engine compartment under the dashboard.

(wild guess)

Your 1997 sc1 Saturn is overheating what do you do?

It depends on the condition in which the vehicle overheats.

If it only overheats when you're in traffic or at a stoplight, the problem MAY be that the radiator fan isn't working properly.

If it overheats when you're on the highway or under normal driving conditions, it COULD be any of the following:

Thermostat. A sticking thermostat can either stick closed, in which case the engine will overheat immediately or it can stick open, preventing the engine from heating up to normal operating temperature. Sometimes a thermostat will sometimes stick open and sometimes stick closed.

Radiator. A blocked radiator will cause an engine to overheat rather quickly. A '97 is old enough that the radiator can be blocked internally, especially if the coolant has not been properly maintained.

Water pump. If the vanes of the water pump have worn out the pump may not be able to move enough coolant to keep the engine cool.

Head gasket. If the engine has EVER been significantly overheated it could have damaged the head gasket. A damaged head gasket usually causes the coolant to blow out the coolant overflow.

Cooling fan. A cooling fan problem can be caused by either an electrical problem (sensor, fuse, switch...) or a faulty fan motor.

If the problem is a bad thermostat, replace it with a new one.

If the problem is a blocked radiator, you CAN take it to a qualified radiator shop and they can often clean it for you.

If the problem is a worn water pump, the only solution is to replace the water pump.

If the problem is a faulty head gasket, you'll need to have the head removed, resurfaced and replace the head gasket.

If the problem is the cooling fan, you'll need someone to trace down the exact nature of the problem.
