There is a minimum number of days students go to school each year, so administrators have a limited number if days they can schedule for holidays and breaks, and still let school out for the summer in late May or early June. Because of that, students have to go to school on some holidays.

If New York City schools are closed, they would be closed on the third Monday of February for Presidents' Day.
