Why do scorpions sting themselves to death in the presence of fire?
that's a commonly asked question.
my theory is that they do this because when they are near fire they know that they will die so the don't want to go through the pain, so instead they sting themselves. hey i might not be right though
hope this helped
That can't be more wrong, scorpions don't have the cognitive ability to calculate pain and make an unnatural decision of killing themselves, they simply react to the heat and spasm hence stinging themselves.
What type of insect looks like a cross between an ant and a scorpion?
Earwigs are shaped like ants but have pincers on the head. They resemble scorpions at this end of the body.
Yes. Although they get most of the water they need from the digested innards of food they eat, they still need a source of water to drink. A small, shallow container (such as a metal lid of a jam jar) is more than adequate.
Do scorpions have poisonious venom?
That depends on the species of scorpian. Scorpian stings can range from a small painful sting, like a bee sting, to a deadly sting. Most scorpians do not possess venom strong enough to kill an adult, but of course, it depends on the species of scorpian. There are scorpians that can inflict a deadly sting. Some zoologists say that the smaller a scorpians pinchers are, the more potent their venom is.

depends on the species, but generally yes. Scorpions killing and eating eachother is not an uncommon occurance. Certain species are considered "communal," and they can be housed together without much risk, but on occassion they may still harm eachother. this can happen if there is not enough food available or if there arn't enough places to hide and territory becomes an issue.
They eat small fish, tadpoles, and other water insects.
Do all kinds of scorpions have stingers?
No they are not. Most will cause a localized reaction but some can cause death.
All scorpions are NOT highly venomous. All scorpions do have venom however, In the United States, there is only one scorpion that is considered dangerous to humans. This would be the Bark Scorpion. It is found hiding under the loose bark of trees and in the leaf litter surrounding the trees. It can be further identified upon close examination by a small tooth-like projection at the "sting" or telson of the tail. It appears as a small hook and opposes the actual sting. They are also one of the few scorpions in the US that can climb. It is dangerously venomous to the very young, the infirm and the very old. If you are allergic to bees and wasps then there is a high likelyhood that you are also allergic to scorpions.
Scorpions catch most of their prey simply by either chasing after it, or lying in ambush waiting for it to wander past. The prey is usually eaten live, but on rare occasions, a sting from the scorpion's tail may be needed to subdue larger or more active prey.
Road Runners are one of their predators.
Aside from cannibalism, large centipedes, spiders and some ants have been recorded as predators. Lizards, a few snakes frogs and toads, birds and mammals also take their share.
In the west (America), scorpions form a large portion of the diet of grasshoppers, mice and burrowing elf owls. The Shovel-nosed snake also from the desert southwest appears to feed almost excusively on scorpions and centipedes.
In Africa and Asia, baboons, meerkats and mongooses systematically search the ground to find scorps, break the telsons or metasomas to avoid a sting before eatig them.

No, only pinchers and stinger
Ahh, my favorite question LOL scorpions don't have fangs like spiders, but they do have mouth parts called chelicerae that look like mini-sized pinchers attached to their heads. They use their chelicerae to tear and chew food, like humans use their teeth. Scorpions can in fact deliver a painful bite with their chelicerae.
What is the difference between a pseudo scorpion and a scorpion?
A scorpion is quite large in comparison to a psedoscorpion. Ascorpion is a predatory arthropod while the pseudo scorpion is an arachnid. Scorpions live up to 25 years, while the pseudoscorpions live only 2 or 3 years in adulthood. Scorpions sting while the pseudoscorpion is harmless to humans and "are generally beneficial to humans since they prey on clothes moth larvae, carpet beetle larvae, booklice, ants, mites, and small flies. They are small and inoffensive, and are rarely seen due to their size."
Wood Scorpions (at least mine, anyhow) prefer fruit- flavored mixes.
What are major symbols in House of the Scorpion?
How do scorpion respond to their environment?
Depends what species you are talking about. some species will live together, others will kill and eat each other.
Actually, all scorpions glow in the dark. There is a chemical compound that courses through their intestinal track and when they are digesting food, this compound is activated and releases a substance much like fluorescence. When you see a scorpion glowing in the night, you know it is digesting its food. Yet you can only see a scorpion glow in the dark under UV light.
