Firstly the rocks are weathered and eroded from an area above ground. Then, they are usually transported down to the sea via rivers. Once they are deposited in the sea, a lot of different layers pile up on top of each other on the sea bed. The Layers are then buried deeper and compacted, to form a sedimentary rock.
