September 11 Attacks

The oldest person on Flight 93 was Donald Freeman Greene, who was 69 years old. He was a passenger on the flight that tragically crashed in Pennsylvania on September 11, 2001.

The only teen listed in the 9/11 memorials is 18 year old Richard Allen Pearlman, who died in the World Trade Center. Most everyone else was 20+, and there were eight younger kids who died, but they were all under the age of 12.

It is not known if they meant to do it purposely on this day or if it was just a coincidence.

I'd say almost a billion, since the civil liberties of our country's citizens have been - at the very least - altered. Our foreign policy has changed for the worse. We now support preemptive strikes of countries, meaning we attack before something happens. And I would say a large amount of people all over the world are nervous about what we might do next with our military.

In the United States, the immediate impact was of course the horror of what had just happened coupled with the unity that it brought to the entire population. The attacks also caused a temporary surge of church attendees which could be viewed as a positive side affect to a horrible tragedy. One of the negative side effects were the economic losses the events of September 11th caused. Many, many people lost their jobs as a result of a downturn in the economy after the terrorist attacks. Negative health effects were also a factor. For those near ground zero in New York or at any of the other crash sites, the debris and dust from the collapse of the towers could have and did cause significant breathing problems. The bigger impact was probably the emotional distress the attacks caused though. Americans, as well as people world wide, mourned for the tragic loss of so many innocent lives. In the book "116 is Going Down," Betsy was injured in the plane crash but survived. She sustained some injuries but was able to make it out alive.

No children in the World Trade Center's daycare center were hurt or killed during the September 11 attacks. All the children were safely evacuated by teachers and daycare staff before the buildings collapsed.

The first three kids on the list were all sixth-grade students from DC embarking on an educational trip to the Channel Islands with their teachers. They were killed on Flight 77 which hit the Pentagon. The two sisters, Zoe and Dana, were also on that flight with their parents, they were on the first leg of a trip to Australia. The last three kids were on Flight 175 which crashed into the south tower. The two girls were both going to Disneyland with their parents and the little boy David was returning home to Los Angeles with his adoptive dads.

So sad that even innocent kids had to lose their lives that day.

Since the 1970's the WTC was the most prominent buildings in NYC. They stood out and could be seen everywhere, so something like a comic would use it as part of a story. Until 9-11 it was impossible to think that they could actually be destroyed. Still, today I find it unbelievable that they are gone.

In total roughly 3,000 lives would be lost as a result of the attacks, many perishing as the Twin Towers collapsed.
