The World Trade Centre and the Pentagon were the iconic landmarks of U.S.A. and they were used for very private activities of America such as military and many more. Moreover, the World Trade Centre towers were the tallest buildings in New York and were easy to spot and strike. The Pentagon was also destroyed on this day as this day was chosen for the groundbreaking ceremony in 1941, 60 years before the crash! They wanted this occasion of celebration to turn into a mourning ceremony, which were the main objectives of the Al-Qaeda Terrorist Organization. There was another plane that was hijacked, which its target was assumed to be either the United States Capitol or the White House, crashed near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, and the buildings made a narrow escape from the verge of destruction. The U.S. Capitol is a very important building which is rich in history. It was constructed in 1793 and major events such as the presidential inaugurations, independence day and Americans lying in state (death of important figures such as Presidents and Senators of America) have been held there. The White House is also a very important place too. It was constructed in 1792, and it is the place where the President of America lives and works! So, the ulterior motive of these terrorists are just to, as the name suggests, terrorize people and destroy historical and iconic buildings, killing innocents in the process.

It is believed that the terrorists wanted to drive the plane into either The White House or Congress. Their plans were interrupted by the passengers who gave their lives in a "Hail Mary" effort to take over the airplane, which was successful. The passengers learned of the World Trade Centers falling from calls from their families. Many people called home to tell their loved ones what they were going to do and to say good by. Some had to leave a message which their families found when they returned home from work that day. They caused the plane, flight 34, to come down an uninhabited area outside of Shanksville Pa. Today they are considered heroes for their self-less act.

i have no idea but it would be nice if the media would include the stories of black families as well. this was a tragic day for all americans, but, again we as a nation only focus on those that were white its as if only their pain is important and this is so wrong

Flight 93 was one of the four hijacked planes on 9/11. This plane crashed in the fields of Pennsylvania near Shanksville, after the passengers mounted a revolt. It possibly saved more lives by preventing the plane from getting to it's hijacker's destination, which was speculated to be the White House or the US Capitol.

The pentagon was under attack during the plot of September 11, 2001. However, the pentagon's thick walls and military-base protection system made it difficult for the plane to lacerate the pentagon's inner-walls too much. Only 125 people were killed in the attack of the pentagon.

While we know the Empire State Building stands on what originally had been a farm, the early history of the site of the WTC is less bucolic and more aquatic. While it is had to tell from the crudely drawn maps, it appears the general area the Trade Center stood on was within the boundaries of the Dutch colony New Amsterdam. If that being the case, then the original owners were not so much a family but a corporation, The Dutch East India Company. A trading and shipping firm based in Holland, they pretty much owned the land lock stock and barrel and saw the whole settlement as a business operation. The harbor was a perfect port and the Dutch foresaw it would be the primary landing spot for ships traveling back and forth between the Old word and the New. Some of the settlers did own and farm land in the colony, but it does not appear the Trade Center was near such properties. Early maps show windmills on the south western tip of the island with the fort just east, so the general area was one that had always been devoted to commercial and industrial interests. It is also noted as being one of the two places for ships to anchor, the other being near where South Street Seaport is now. As the port traffic grew so did this area and once the English took over in 1700 mills, warehouses and wharfs dominated the neighborhood. As ships grew bigger and needed deeper ports, the piers were extended further into the river and the waterfront was filled in. It was this reclaimed land that the Trade Center was eventually built upon.
