Do Seventh-day Adventists use music in church services?

They certainly do. In some more conservative churches, the members prefer only live music (rather than recorded music), but it would be a very exceptional Adventist church that did not use music of some kind in its church service.

Do Seventh-day Adventists believe in Mary?

Answer 1

Seventh-day Adventist believe in the incarnate birth of Jesus Christ. We believe that Mary was the vessel used by God to bring Jesus into this world by human/natural birth. We believe in the Bible account of Jesus' birth as outlined in Matthew 1.

The premise of the question however is, do we (Adventists) "believe" in Mary as the Roman Catholic Church believes; in that she is Holy, Adored, and Worshiped as a "God-like" person. The answer is No.

Adventist do not believe in or pray to Mary. We do not believe that she is alive. We do not believe that she is to be worship in any way. We honor her only as a member of the characters within the Bible who played pivotal roles in God's plan for humanity. She is respected just as Martha, Mary of Magdalene, Joseph, and many others whom God used for His purpose. She in no way stands above any other person, and she was a sinner in need of salvation like all humanity.

Answer 2

Seventh-day Adventists do not believe in praying to Mary, but they wholeheartedly adore and obey Ellen White, their revered prophetess, church mother, and infallible interpreter of Scripture. One must first confess Ellen G. White before an Adventist minister is allowed to baptize anyone into Christ. Due to their fervently believing in the extra-biblical authority and reveries of Ellen White, Seventh-day Adventists cannot be considered to be Protestants.

Ellen G White believes about movies?

As Ellen G White was born around 200 years ago, its impossible to know what she thinks about movies, as there was no such thing. Also society was very different back then, so some of her guidelines for how to live are not relevant now because things have changed so much since then. This is not to say her writings are irrelevant, they just have to be read in context.

Whoever wrote the above is completely incorrect. Sister White has directed us as Christians that the things which lead us away from God (like the context of certain movies) should not be a part of our lives.

I believe that it was of the Theater... not the movies. they used to theater for showgirls and stuff like that. We as Christians shouldn't be at places like that! So that was the reason we didn't go to the movies. The info regarding the movies it something we nned to take up with God.

What is the Seventh-day Adventist doctrine on the Sanctuary?

The message of the sanctuary is a beautiful and sobering one. To fully understand the time we are living in one needs to study the sanctuary service of Israel set up by God. After all God instructed Moses to make the earthly sanctuary in resemblance to the one that He showed him on the mountain. The service contained many symbolic rites that basically represented the ministration of Christ in the heavenly sanctuary. The most important to note was the Day of Atonement. I urge you to study it. When you do I can now then understand the prophecy of Daniel chapter 8 where it said, "unto 2300 days then the sanctuary will be cleansed." You may ask what is the cleacsing of the sanctuary? When you study on what was the sugnificance of the day of ateonement then you would see the light of the prophecy.

When did the Seventh-day Adventist Church start celebrating Christmas?

As far as I understand it Seventh-day Adventists have always celebrated Christmas. I know that the Jehovah's Witnesses don't celebrate Christmas. In reality, if one searches the roots of Christmas, and how the date came about, it comes fully from pagan practices and really has no background in Christianity. It is like other pagan rituals that have been adopted into Christianity like Easter. Other than this page, I have never read anything that says that the SDA Church had a point in its history when they didn't observe Christmas. Let's not forget that Ellen White originally came from a Methodist church and the early members came from many denominations. All which observed Christmas and even Ellen White thought that the tree should not be removed from the house, if I remember reading it right. However, I think many faiths today would really disagree with the way Christmas is celebrated. Hope that helps.

How is the Seventh-day Adventist Church structured?

The Seventh-day Adventist church is governed by a form of democratic representation which resembles the presbyterian system of church organization. Four levels of organization exist within the world church.

  1. The local church is the foundation level of organizational structure and is the public face of the denomination. Every baptized Adventist is a member of a local church and has voting powers within that church.
  2. Directly above the local church is the "local conference" or "local mission". The local conference/mission is an organization of churches within a state, province or territory (or part thereof) which appoints ministers, owns church land and organizes the distribution of tithes and payments to ministers.
  3. Above the local conference is the "union conference" or "union mission" which embodies a number of local conferences/missions within a larger territory.
  4. The highest level of governance within the church structure is the General Conference which consists of 13 "Divisions", each assigned to various geographic locations. The General Conference is the church authority and has the final say in matters of conjecture and administrative issues. The General Conference is headed by the office of President; in June 2010 Dr. Jan Paulsen was replaced by Ted N. C. Wilson by a vote of the General Conference Nominating Committee. The General Conference head office is in Silver Spring, Maryland.

Each organization is governed by a general "session" which occurs at certain intervals. This is usually when administrative decisions are made. The president of the General Conference, for instance, is elected at the General Conference Session every five years. Delegates to a session are appointed by organizations at a lower level. For example, each local church appoints delegates to a conference session.

Tithes collected from church members are not used directly by the local churches, but are passed upwards to the local conferences/missions which then distribute the finances toward various ministry needs. Within a geographic region, ministers receive roughly equal pay irrespective of the size of their church.

The Church Manual gives provisions for each level of government to create educational, healthcare, publishing, and other institutions that are seen within the call of the Great Commission.

Another answerWe have a general conference (GC) which oversees the world church.

Then there are the divisions (in my case, the North American division).

Then there are unions, such as Pacific Union (CA, OR, WA, etc) or Lake Union (MI, MN, WI, etc).

After that, there are local conferences (TN, WY, CO, FL, etc).

Some conferences are further divided, depending on the size of the state/region. Each local conference oversees the local churches/pastors and schools/teachers.

What was Ellen G. White's view of technology?

She used the technology of her day whenever it was available, practical, and economical. For instance, she traveled by horse and buggy (she know how to hitch up the horse herself), train, steam boat, and street car. She eventually had electrical lights installed in her home. She was also very interested in the latest medical treatments that agreed with Biblical principals and what God had shown her in vision about health.

What is the seventh day of the week set aside for rest and worship?

It depends. Friday starting and sun-down through Saturday sun-down is the sabbath day of rest for Jews. Christians celebrate the resurrection of Jesus on Sunday which has become the day of rest in Christian cultures. Friday is considered the day of rest in Muslim cultures. So if you want to cover the bases, that's about half the week.
