What are the characteristics of the seventh day adventist?
I believe there are many strengths to the Seventh-day Adventist church. Our faith stands on the Bible and the Bible alone. Not man-made laws and rituals that have changed the face of true Christianity over the decades. We find total rest on the Sabbath day. Resting from worldly worries and stresses. Friday night to Saturday night are our 24 hrs of rest and worship, not just the couple hours during the church service like many religions. All our fundamental beliefs are found and supported in the Bible....that is the greatest strength of all. What greater strength can there be than the word of God?

Yes, as long as she was not married and divorced before and if she agrees to the man's oath to bring up children as catholic and for a permanent marriage committment for life. That would be a valid catholic nmaraige in the presence of the church's minister.

Is religious group the Seventh-day Adventists the same as Jehovah's Witnesses?
Seventh-day Adventist are definitely Christian.
According to their Baptismal Vow and their list of Fundamental Beliefs, Seventh-day Adventists state the Holy Scriptures are their rule of faith. This is also in conjunction with holding that Ellen G White was "the Lord's Messenger", whose writings are, "a continuing and authoritative source of truth. . . ." per Covenant #8 of their Baptismal Vow or #18 of their list of Fundamental Beliefs.
According to their own internal survey an overwhelming majority of Adventists believe Ellen G. White had the gift of Prophecy. Although never claiming the title of Prophet personally, Ellen G White stated the title of Prophet was limited compared to the scope of her role in the Church.
Although it is frequently stated that members are not required to hold Ellen G White in veneration as a "messenger of the Lord" Ellen G White's writings own writings suggest acceptance of her gift as a test of fellowship in the church. In Pages 328-9, of Testimonies to the Church Volume One, Ellen G White wrote about those who argued or fought against the visions she received that,
"the church may know that they are not right."
Adventists as a group:In addition to the some of the primary beliefs of Orthodox Christianity, Adventists also believe--There is a sanctuary in heaven, the true tabernacle which the Lord set up and not man. In it Christ ministers on our behalf, making available to believers the benefits of His atoning sacrifice offered once for all on the cross.
Seventh-Day Adventists are not known for going from house-to-house. Jehovah's Witnesses involve every member in training for their trademark ministry; from youth to those 90+ years old; every week of their life.
What do Seventh-day Adventists believe about soul sleep?
Seventh-day Adventists believe that the word "soul" does not refer to a part of a person that is immortal, but to the person itself. In Genesis, when God breathed into Adam the breath of life, several versions say he "became a living soul." This means that: breath of life + dust = living soul. Therefore, when someone dies, living soul - breath of life = dust. Basically, instead of a person going to heaven or hell at death, or becoming a ghost or an angel, they believe that the person ceases to exist. But because God created each person in the first place and knows who each of us is, he can resurrect or recreate us at the Second Coming without a problem, so it is as if we were asleep all the time we were dead, and that is why it is compared to sleep: the next thing we know after dying, Jesus is calling us from our graves. Adventists also point out that Jesus himself compared death to a sleep when he went to Jairus' house and raised his daughter back to life. He told the mourners that she was only sleeping.
How did the Seventh Day Adventists come to worship on Saturday if this day was named after Saturn?
I'm sure as you know in the 10 commandments the seventh day is a day of rest. The Seventh Day Adventists believe that Saturday is this day of rest. A better question might be, why would Sunday be all of a sudden considered the seventh day of the week? If you observe any calendar, what used to have Saturday as last day of the week is starting to slowly transfer into Sunday.. I believe they now call it the working week calendar. If you also draw attention to the other names of the week they were all named after some form of astrology or Greek god. For example Sunday after the sun... Just because names change does not mean God's law has changed. He expressed clearly he would like us to rest on the seventh day and he marked his authority on this day. We believe by sticking to what is written in the Bible inevitably sets us apart from other beliefs and may make us stand out in a crowd. I can vouch that this is a hard thing to grasp, but I have found this often leads to explaining to someone what my religion is all about. That is what I believe spreading the Gospel is. Anyways sorry got sidetracked, point of the matter is, we are holding to what we believe is written and we are adamant to show others that it matters. I hope I answered this right =/ all the best.
Do Seventh-day Adventists have to have a beard?
No. There is no requirement for Adventists to have beards. Cultural norms are usually followed in this area by Adventists around the world. It is true that in most pictures of the Adventist pioneers, the men have beards, but that is simply because wearing a beard was the cultural norm for men in the time and place in which the pioneers lived.

How did the seven day Adventist group started?
The Seventh-day Adventist Church is a direct descendant of the Millerite movement of the early- to mid-1800s. This movement was named after farmer-turned-preacher William Miller who felt the need to share his beliefs about the soon return of Jesus. The Seventh-day Adventist Church still holds the soon return of Jesus as one of its main tenets. Some of the pioneers of the church were James and Ellen White, Joseph Bates, and Uriah Smith.
Another answer:
there were people who broke away from the Roman Catholic Church because they discovered that the Roman Catholic Church was teaching lies (they wouldn't even let the people read The Bible for themselves). So those who broke away from the church began to read the Bible for themselves and followed every teaching of the Bible. Thus came the SDA Church (there are many other events that led up to the making of the church but this puts it into perspective I think.)
Are Seventh-day Adventists vegetarians?
I was raised in the Seventh-day Adventist church. My father was a minister. To answer your question, typically no. Adventists believe that to have a clear mind you must to as healthy as possible and that the body is the temple of God and since meat tends to degrade the health, most Adventists do not eat meat. However, if you are going to eat meat, Adventist believe that the health laws of Leviticus are still binding so that the only meats that a Bible believer can eat are the ones that the Bible defines as being clean.
Clean animals are as follows:
Mammals: Must have a cloven hoof and chew the cud (Leviticus 11:3) Examples of Clean Mammals: Cows and Chickens
Fish: Must have scales and fins (Leviticus 11:9)
Birds: Clean except for listed unclean birds (Leviticus 11:13) (unclean being scavengers like vultures, hawks, eagles, etc.)
Other answers/comments:
Outside of the United States, the number of Adventists that eat meat varies, but is often higher than in the US.
Advent means waiting for some thing to happen. an adventist in religious terms means anyone who is waiting for Jesus to return according to scripture. John 14 v 1-3. Another answer:
The word "advent" refers to the coming of something or someone (as in "the advent of the personal computer"). An Adventist (in theology) is someone who believes in the soon return of Jesus Christ at the Second Coming. The connotation is often that he or she is also waiting for that event with anticipation, but the word itself only denotes the belief in it as a real future event. The largest Adventist denomination is the Seventh-day Adventist Church, often referred to as simply the "Adventist Church".
