Sharks

The cousin of the shark is the ray. Both sharks and rays belong to the same group of cartilaginous fishes known as elasmobranchs.

Salmon sharks primarily feed on fish, including salmon, herring, and mackerel. They have also been known to eat squid and other cephalopods. Additionally, they may opportunistically feed on seabirds and marine mammals.

Shark teeth are made of dentin, a hard tissue similar to bone, covered by a layer of enamel. They have a conical shape and are constantly regenerating throughout the shark's life to replace lost or worn teeth.

Pacific angelsharks are not what you would call, the fastest swimmer. Much like rays, the pacific angelshark glides along the bottom of the ocean, but can give quick burst of speed when need be. A pacific angelshark's prey can swim faster then the shark itself.

The closest relatives to sharks would be rays and skates. They make up a group known as Chondrichthyans, meaning they are characterized by having skeletons made up of cartilage instead of bone.

No they do not. They are classified as vertebrates however they do not have a true backbone. It is in fact made of cartilage and is therefore not classed as a bone hence they do not have a back'bone'.

Sharks are fish, and breathe with gills.

Dolphins are mammals, breathe with lungs, and can't breathe underwater.

They breath at the surface, then hold their breath - which they're really good at - while diving.

Sharks migrate to warmer waters during the winter to avoid colder temperatures. They may travel long distances to reach these warmer areas where they can continue to feed and reproduce. Some species of sharks also migrate to follow their prey or to give birth in specific breeding grounds.

Leopard sharks can be found along the eastern Pacific Ocean, primarily in shallow coastal waters from Oregon to Baja California. They prefer sandy or muddy seabeds and are often seen in estuaries, bays, and rocky reefs.

Although many species prefer to live in warmer, more temperate and tropical climates, sharks are found nearly worldwide. One of the most aggressive types of shark is called the Bull Shark. The Bull Shark can be found in freshwater rivers and other bodies of water in South and Central America. Some sharks stay relatively close to land while other prefer the darkest trenches in the ocean.

It is extremely unlikely for a single shark to eat a blue whale, as blue whales are the largest animals on Earth and can weigh up to 200 tons. However, a group of sharks may scavenge on a dead blue whale carcass if given the opportunity.

The biggest extinct shark in the world is the Megalodon. It lived approximately 23 to 3.6 million years ago and is estimated to have reached lengths of up to 60 feet.

A leopard shark has five gill slits on either side of its body. The gill slits are on the sides of the shark's head.

Sharks can live to be 200 yrs.. The oldest shark still alive is the shark "Mandig Hai" who is currently 188 yrs old, has a statue, and his own art exhibition with photo proof documenting the sharks life. The fin has a significant mark. People are currently placing bets on wether or not the shark lives past the 200yr mark!

Frilled sharks have existed for around 80 million years, making them one of the oldest species of sharks still around today. Their unique physical characteristics and deep-sea habitat have allowed them to remain relatively unchanged over the millennia.

Sharks typically have 5 to 7 pairs of gill slits located on the sides of their bodies. These slits are used for obtaining oxygen from the water to breathe.

It is difficult to estimate the global shark population accurately due to various factors such as their wide distribution and varying population densities. However, some studies suggest that the global shark population has declined significantly due to overfishing and habitat destruction.

The neritic zone has generally well-oxygenated water, low water pressure, and relatively stable temperature and salinity levels. These, combined with presence of light and the resulting photosynthetic life, such as phytoplankton and floating sargassum[2], make the neritic zone the location of the majority of sea life. Ancient peoples used abrasive shark skin to create tools, such as scrapers and knives, due to its rough texture. Shark skin was effective for tasks that required cutting, slicing, or smoothing materials like wood, bone, or hides. Additionally, shark skin was sometimes used as sandpaper for polishing and finishing surfaces.

Shark attacks may occur when there's a feeding frenzy going on and a shark gets excited and ACCIDENTALLY attacks a nearby human. It can also happen when there's a surfer on a board and from under water, it looks like the surfer is a seal.... and you know, it attacks the human. Trust me.... I study this stuff in ALP.

The amount of food a shark eats in a day depends on the type of shark. The Blue Shark eats until is starts to vomit up its food, the goes right back to eating again. The Great White shark eats around 500 pounds of food per day. On the other hand, there are sharks that can go for weeks without eating.
