Shaving

Shaving is the process of removing body hair with a sharp blade. It is usually done for cosmetic purposes, but can also be done for purposes of sanitation. It is common to shave an area of the body before a surgical procedure. Shaving is also done for competitive reasons, such as increasing speed while swimming.

Had cryosurgery on my face should you avoid shaving until areas are healed?

You should always consult your doctor regarding such questions (they should have sent you home with a post-operative care checklist or something similar). Since shaving is optional, and primarily a cosmetic concern, why not wait until the area is fully healed? That way you will avoid exposing the area to any irritating chemicals or mechanical stimulation. That being said, the final word should always be from your physician.

What is the best way of shaving over a tattoo without damaging or fading it?

Just shave over it naturally once its healed. Shaving won't fade it and as long as you are completely healed, shaving won't bother it either. The only time you have to be concerned about "messing it up" is when the ink is fresh and you have the open wound but at that point, you shouldn't even have it in the water for very long.

Can you use the same razor for face shaving that you used to shave your pubic area?

What do you do a few days after shaving when your hair has grown back a bit so it itches and you scratched too much so your skin split a bit and is bleeding a little?

Shaving pubic hair, underarm hair, or even leg hair can cause irritation, in-grown hairs, and itchiness. These tips apply to any site.

  1. Gather together A&D ointment or generic First-Aid ointment but without pain reliever, or just plain Vaseline (TM). Also several clean washcloths and a hand-towel. Also get a hand-held mirror to check the areas.
  2. Soak in a WARM (not hot) bathtub. NO bubble bath or strong soaps.
  3. PAT yourself dry. Patting and being dry helps decrease itching and prevents infection.
  4. Either in the bathroom or the privacy of your room, use the mirror to check on open skin. If just red and sliced, it should be okay. If deeply cut, oozing blood or pus, you need to see a doctor.
  5. Gently DAB on either the ointment OR the Vaseline.
  6. IF possible at night, leave off underwear /clothing so the area gets air.
  7. Several times a day, wet a washcloth with very warm-hot water and lay it against the area as a wet compress. Remove; pat dry; dab on ointment or Vaseline.
  8. IF any area develops a pimple, re-do the bath, warm compresses, etc.
  9. It should feel better immediately, but take up to a week to heal.
  10. IF you notice any foul odor, pus, white discharge (yeast), you need to see a doctor.
  11. Lastly, do NOT scratch! If itching is too intense, PRESS your hand on the area but do not rub. Nerve endings can't really tell the difference between pressing vs. rubbing/friction; pressing should relieve the itching for 10-15 minutes. Otherwise.... ignore it as best you can.

How do you ask your mum to start shaving under your arms dont want to buy own what do you say?

You need to wear an outfit that pays particular attention to your underarms and let your mum see you in it right before you go out. It will be glaringly obvious to your mum and you'll probably not have to ask.

You keep getting boils under your arms even though you used shaving cream like the doctor prescribed does anyone know how to fix this?

Growing hairs often "curl" under the skin and make skin bumps, irritations, pimples, and boils.

Some things you could try include:

  1. A new sharp razor should help prevent hairs from becoming ingrown, which can lead to pimples or boils.
  2. Try placing a hot (to touch--not boiling) washcloth on the underarms for 10 minutes before applying shaving cream (hot compress); this can help open the pores and help prevent hairs being caught under skin layers.
  3. After shaving, use a Loofah type scrubber with a fair amount of hot sudsy water and gently "scrub" the area to remove dead skin cells that could be covering the bases of hairs.
  4. If you can, use a mirror to see if the "boil" areas contain curled up hairs.
  5. Also, make sure you rub-dry on the underarms--this will also help prevent curling of hairs. Dry skin accepts deodorant better than damp skin.
  6. As soon as you get home and stay home, wash off all deodorant and rub-dry over the skin.
  7. If you have an active boil, get the hot compress and wrap it in a towel to keep hot, then lay on your bed with your arm/s raised and use the compress for 15 minutes. You should remove when the cloth changes from hot to warm... dry the area thoroughly. You can repeat compresses several times during the evenings. For active boils or pimples, the hot compress can help open them and allow them to drain.
  8. Ask the doctor about Ictheal -- a black pasty cream that draws pus from pimples or boils. Ictheal stains clothing, so you may want to put on a very old T-shirt after applying this. Leave it on overnight if possible.
