This isn't true. It was said on Dogs 101 that Shih Tzus are the most closely related to wolves because they were the oldest and first to be bred. There is absolutely nothing to confirm this. Other asian dogs, like Chow Chow, Shar Pei, Akita Inu, Shiba Inu, etc. were all bred at around the same time (Not precisely, but close). We don't have enough information to know which came first. And then you have dogs like Siberian Huskies, Alaskan Malamutes, etc. who retained the characteristics of wolves because of the conditions they were bred for. So, if you mean the oldest dogs, any of those asian breeds work. But, in genetic similarity, Shih Tzus are in no way the closest. There are many, many studies comparing wolf DNA to the DNA of different breeds.

A study by the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle of dog DNA finds six breeds most closely related to the dog's wolf-like ancestors.

The study, appearing in Friday's edition of Science, found the Siberian husky, the Afghan hound, Africa's basenji, China's chow chow, Japan's akita, and Egypt's saluki most closely related to the ancient breed and may indicate dogs developed in Asia and then migrated with nomadic humans to other areas.

Another interesting study I have read compares which dogs behave more like a wolf and compares the level of paedomorphosis (that is retaining juvenile features. For example, floppy ears are typical of a juvenile wolf). The results are surprising. Although it should be noted, it is a very limited number of breeds and a small study. Certainly not conclusive but food for thought.

It concluded the Siberian Husky, Golden retriever and German Shepherd are closest to the wolf, in that order.

But all of these have to do with genetics, and how much they kept the wolf genes. Not which was the first to come from wolves.

Shih Tzu's normally have between 3-4 puppies, but this varies depending on the dog and its' size, i.e. a bigger Shih Tzu may have more puppies than a smaller one.

Yes Shih Tzus can. Actually it's quite good for them. The protein in pork is good, but might cause diarrhea. I recommend this breed to anyone.

You will need to buy a male and female shih tzu. Here are some steps to breeding: STEP 1: Adopt two shih tzus (one female and one male) STEP 2: make sure the two puppies are from two different clans because you can't mate a brother and sister shih tzu (that would be terrible!! :( STEP 3: buy them one dog house for both of them to sleep in, the mating will take place at night STEP 4: make sure they continue mating until the female get pregnant (shih tzu parents can give birth to a litter more than 1 time) HOPE THESE STEPS HELP, I USED THESE STEPS WITH MY OWN SHIH TZUS AS WELL.

I would have your dog checked out by the vet. If it does not seem natural the way/amount/method in which your dog is urinating it could indicate that it has a bladder problem or some other type of sickness. One of my friend's dogs constantly urinated and would run away and be extremely frightened, but it was because she was sick. I can't recall if it was cancer or some type of tumor but she has no control over her bladder anymore and will soon pass away. So heaven forbid, but just to be safe get your dog checked out. This is either be a sickness or a training problem-such as the fear of harsh repercussions, and the only way to figure it out is to go to the vet.

It's spelled Shih tzu. Go online and look for shih tzu rescue groups near you. DO NOT go to a pet store! These are most likely puppy mill dogs. Their poor parents are in cages all their lives and the puppies usually end up with health and/or behavioral problems as a result of inbreeding.

well,if its a female spayed male neutered.and u should spay it when it is a puppy for safety because if they have to many litters its considerd abuse if there are to many.
