It sounds like it may be a Springfield side by side. For reasons unknown to me Springfiled fell out of favor with the government for a while in the late 20s and to keep afloat they manufactured guns for other companies such as Stevens and Savage. I beleived they were made in now bare with my spelling Chicoppee Falls, New York also their was a small company in the early 1900's in Nashville Tn that made side by sides. I would have to do some more research into the name as I found one while rummaging thru a abandon burned down barn near the Alabama line mechaniclly it seems rugged enough to re-stock but common sense tells me it may be the death of me to attempt shooting it. Please keep this in mind also the crown leads me to believe it may be of English origin as well in the late 1800's thru the 1940's there were many cottage gun makers some were very very well made but never acheived the success like Parker Hale or Purdy.
