Do Siberian huskies have a high prey drive?

Yes they do.

I do not believe in this though, I have seen many Siberian Huskies allow strangers in houses & my 3 Siberians never attack children or my rabbits. If they did have high prey drive, they wouldn't be such big whiners or to kind to strangers, compare a GSD to a husky, the GSD would probably have a higher prey drive.

I luv the GSD & SH, both great breeds but I don't believe in the "Huskies have high prey drive bull crap."

What are the bad things about a Siberian Husky?

There is nothing "bad" about Siberian Huskies. However there are a few things that can make them challenging as pets. These include but are not limited to; a strong desire to run (often not toward you...) as strong prey drive, being a working breed they have a LOT of energy, they are a pack oriented dog (meaning they do better with at least one other dog) and they can be very strong headed or stubborn. They are often a little too smart which can make it difficult to get them to do what you want them to do. If you have the ability to work around these instincts or to use them for positive outlets a Siberian can be one of the most wonderful companions you will ever have in your life.

--As owner of three, I'd like to add that they are also destructive. They'll chew on anything from drywall, to shoes, to chair cushions. If you have to leave them in the house, kennel them up to prevent this.

Amazingly, Huskies are, like many other mammals, easily acclimated to any climate you put them in. It may take some time if moving from Alaska to Florida. This may require a more watchful eye for some time after moving. Heat stroke, heat spots, and any other kind of illness caused by heat. Other than that, there should be no problem.

What is the colest temperature a Siberian husky can tolerate?

Antarctica

answer 2 I was in Antarctica in 1959, and our teams of huskies stayed out on the ice the year round.( Husky is not a breed, it is a job description - just like sheep dog.) About 40 - odd dogs in all. The coldest periods were down below -50 oC as I recall, and the dogs just rolled themselves into a ball and slept. These were Greenland huskies, somewhat larger than the Alaskan or Siberian. In retrospect this treatment was probably harsh, for in the south, the winter snows are only blown around fine powder snow, that does not build up drifts. In northern climes, a little moister, the snow can more easily build drifts around the dog.

They had magnificent teeth. They got a chunk of seal meat every 2nd day, about 2kg perhaps. It was deep frozen of course and had the texture of a chunk of hardwood. nevertheless, they gnawed their way through it. They were spanned out in such a way that they could not attack each other or eat each other's food.
