Where does bone break down?

Bones break whenever an event supplies adequate force which exceeds the bone's resiliance to that stress. Bending, twisting, compression, and impact forces can provide instantaneous energy to do this but lower energies applied over longer periods, i.e., repetitive stress, can contribute. Vibrations, if of sufficient duration and strength, can exceed the ability to absorb energy successfully. as well. Wherever the force concentrates is where the break usually occurs.

We know that certain fracture/breaks are more problematic than others. Breaks in the femur neck are almost impossible to heal without surgical pinning or even complete replacement, whereas breaks in the ribs or clavicles are typically left alone to heal normally and are rarely treated surgically unless they are compounded fractures and threaten to poke inward towards the lungs.
